Question re labour and differing policies (Mears??)

I had an emergency C with DD who is almost 1 year old. I am due second baby in January. I have said that I'll try for a normal birth but to keep options open if there are any problems. Thing is this. The first time when my waters broke I went to the hosptial, they checked and confirmed that my waters had broken and then sent me home to sit it out as contractions hadn't started. They started shortly after and by the next afternoon were coming around every 15-20 minutes. I wanted something for the pain so went in again. They checked but I hadn't even begun to dilate so off back home again. To be fair to them they did say I could stay in hospital but it would just be in a ward rather than the labour suite. I didn't want to appear a woose so went home and took parecetemol as suggested by them. Unfortunately I began to throw up with every contraction so the parecetemol didn't stay down. By the evening I went back in again and was determined not to come out until the baby was born. On reflection I'm sure I had a sixth sense that all was not going to go to plan and just wanted to be somewhere safe. Even my DH noticed that I had calmed down considerably Once I was in hospital.

This time round I've been told that should I go overdue then I will automatically have another C as induction can cause problems. However if I go into labour naturally I want to be in the hospital right from the word go. Would it be normal procedure for this to be the case because of the previous C anyway or is it something I have to request.

Sorry about going on ......

Pagan, you need to discuss how you feel with your midwife and have your concerns noted. At my unit, there would be no problem at all if you wanted to be admitted. The fact you are a previous C/S will probably mean that your own hospital will keep you too. They would probably admit you to a ward, rather than the labour ward, if your labour was not established. Try not to worry - a discussion with your midwife should put your mind at rest.
