Hi, I am due to get induced on the 2nd January. The consultant said I could chose what time I want to go to hospital to start gel. When would you advise we go? I was thinking if night then I can maybe get a sleep in after one pessery and then start proceedings the next day. But then if I go in in the morning it might all kick off sooner than what expected. Can anyone that has any experience advise? I will be 40weeks on the dot. I’m ivf hence inducement. Thanks. It’s also my first birth

I’ve been induced twice, and didn’t sleep during either. The second time they gave me a pessary at about midnight and gave birth at approx 10.30. That was better than the being induced at 8.30 am and giving birth at 12.30 am next day. I didn’t get to sleep either time by the second time I was able to stay mobile and not stuck on a drip. At the end I was just glad our children were born and forgot about it all, would have still had further children if I had been able to even if it would have meant being induced. Good luck

I went in, in the evening. I was given the peasant about 8pm. My waters popped at 10pm and I had irregular contractions after my waters popped. My contractions weren't painful providing I walked around. I didn't know she. They were coming so I couldn't sit down or lie down between them. So I didn't sleep all night! My son was born at 12.40 in the afternoon the following day. I had no sleep in that time at all. I did have paracetamol, pethidine and gas and air. None of which worked so I had to walk around for pain relief. About 2 hours before I gave birth I had an epidural which stopped the pain soo could lie down. I wanted to lie on my side but the midwives wouldn't let me as baby's heartbeat was hard to track. Because I was on my back I couldn't sleep.

Then when he was born he wouldn't get off my boob (completely normal). I was terrified of going to sleep on him because I'd read so many things that said co-sleeping was bad. (Which it isn't in most cases!) So I was completely exhausted!

If I could choose again, then induction after a full nights sleeps best. But I was so put off I decided on a homebirth 5 years later and refused induction.

Not sure if my reply is helpful or not. I would say just choose the time you think is best be hope for the best!

No real advice but 2 things:

I could never sleep night before induction date...

You don't get induced until they have a bed and staff free, just because you're booked in at a set time doesn't mean there is a bed free...

I've had 4 inductions, 2 rather long drawn out but all delivered without assistance so don't think it's all horror stories Thanks

I was Told to come in to be introduced at 10pm my contractions started 10 minutes after coming of the monitor! If I was ever induced again I would choose to be induced in the morning
