Umbilical Cord snapped inside womb

I'm a 29yo man I've recently been looking into my past to look for answers to some of my current mental and physical health problems.

My mother told me this about my birth and I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences or can shed some light on my birth.

Basically my cord snapped when I was still inside the womb and I took my first breath inside breathing in what ever fluid from the womb.

I often joked about how I cut my own Cord and how many people can say that!

But from what my mum tells me it snapped inside, I came out all limp and wobberly and the doctors wisked me away and did something (pump my stomach of fluid?) then I burped and pooped on the nurses hand and my dad said that's my boy lol this also gave me a TB jab before they handed me back to my mother.

Growing up I've always been very hyperactive but that's all I was ever told. I did see a lot of doctors as a child apparently because I couldn't sleep.

My girlfriend recently made a remark based on how excitable I can be suggesting I may have ADHD. And the more I look into it the more things start to make sense. I've always felt different and confused at the way people react to things I say or how I behave.

I also suffer from eczema quite badly and have been told I'm borderline bipolar although I've heard bipolar can be misdiagnosed ADHD.

Any thoughts? Ever heard of this happening before and possible side affects.

It's highly unlikely to be related to your traumatic birth. All conditions you've listed are very common and won't have anything to do with your birth. If you had brain damage and serious SEN then that could possibly be related due to lack of oxygen during birth but otherwise I really don't think it's anything to lose sleep over.

Flowers I’m sure you birth wouldn’t be the cause but even if it is, it’s best to focus on getting yourself a diagnosis and working towards a plan for treatment and possibly counselling if you feel that would help you come to terms with anything from your childhood?

I agree these are common issues and you may have had the exact same experience had the cord not snapped.

I think you should centre on getting a diagnosis and help for adhd. Also try looking into nutrition for your adhd and eczema. Nutrition won’t cure anything but it may help to balance you better.

Your mum's description of events sounds a little muddled. Issues with the cord are not uncommon (though I suspect 'snapping' is hyperbole)

Also inhaling some fluid during birth is not uncommon, nor is having a low apgar score (being floppy, poor colour etc). Sucking away inhaled fluid is a routine procedure.

Newborns are also routinely given jabs - you don't seem to have had the vit K one which is absolutely routine. TB was offered to all newborns in hospital in high risk areas.

I don't think any of those birth events are implicated with later issues.

Brain damage from oxygen starvation during birth is a different thing altogether. Were you ever assessed for that? It can be the cause of significant learning difficulties (though AFAIK is not related to ADHD, but happy to be corrected)
