Hi Folks,

Currently pregnant with my second child, still very early days but thinking of my options this time around.

My first childbirth started with three days of being induced (peccary, tablets, waters broke, drip) which only got me to 5cm due to the length of time and no progress option which was advised was emergency section even though it wasn't really an emergency at that point.
While waiting for my c-section my baby ended up in fetal distress which resulted in buzzer being called, ten people in the room and I was quickly taken to theatre. That part was very stressful as was naturally worried about my baby.
So now we get to this baby and deciding whether or not to try or have an elective.
Definitely not being induced in any form so it will only start on its own. There is also a couple of others thing which I would not want to try and Vbac because including back to back labour as this was how my first was presenting.

Just wondering if anyone had similar first birth to myself and had a successful VBAC?

Thank you.

Hi there. I was induced (pessary) with my first at 40+5 as amniotic fluid was low and the placenta was not functioning properly. 12 hours in, I hadn’t had a single contraction but the baby suddenly got distressed leading to a crash section within 20 minutes in similar circumstances to you. If turned out that DC1 had IUGR, which often causes the baby to struggle in labour.

With DC2 I was desperate to have a VBAC although the odds were slim as there were again problems with the placenta. I’m not in the UK but my hospital will not induce after a CS due to the increased risk of uterine rupture. So the plan was to try for a VBAC if I went into labour spontaneously by term but otherwise have a CS.

Luckily I went into labour at 38+1 and had a really straightforward delivery, no pain relief needed and she was out in 3 pushes. I really wasn’t expecting it, as with my first my cervix was still closed 12 hours into induction.

I also just had DC3 a couple of weeks ago, again with a straightforward natural delivery.

I hope that helps and wish you all the best however you deliver!

I had a successful VBAC 18 months after my CS. Didn’t get to labour at all first time around so this was really my first labour. We agreed I’d have sweeps leading up to my due date for various reasons and that got me to 3cm it was the agreed that I’d go into hospital to have my waters broken to try and bring on labourthe next day. That evening I went into labour myself! Baby was back to back, in an awful position and was quite big! Stalled at 8cm for quite a while, got an epidural at that point which was all for the best as I ended up in theatre with a rotational forceps delivery. 23 hours in total, I still loved the experience all in all but am hopeful that next time is a little bit more straightforward!
Good luck OP!

Pretty much same first birth as you long disastrous induced labour, risk of infection so emergency c section second natural birth 5 hour labour could not have been more different.
