Third degree tear

Hi all, just wanted to know if any one else has experienced a third degree tear. I'm really struggling with the pain, and wondered if anyone had any advice or recommendations or to speed up recovery. I have little strength, and feel so weak after birth it's hard to spend time with baby, having to use all the support from family. Thank you

I had a 3° and then a 2° with DC2.

Stay in bed. For at least a week, if not two. Have DP bring meals, snacks, drinks etc to you. Have DP pass you the baby (sliding up into a sitting position was the worst thing for me).

Watch TV, read books, cuddle your baby while he's in the newborn sleepy stage. Take time to recover before the sleep deprivation really sets in!

Give yourself TIME.

Hi @Mdhil,
I'm sorry you're dealing with this. The best place for peer support for severe tears is the Birth Tear Support Facebook group. You'll find women who've gone through or are going through the same. Take it easy. You're dealing with a serious injury (as well as caring for your new baby).
Healing is very slow and the pelvic floor takes months to strengthen again. Flowers

I had a third degree tear from y forceps delivery yesterday. So far the pain is manageable on paracetamol, diclofenac and a little bit of oromorph as long as I don’t move around too much. I’m still on the maternity unit with a catheter in at the moment - not looking forward to having it removed in a few hours!

Dark Star don't worry about the catheter removal, it's just weird not painful.
I had a severe 3rd degree tear, you just need to take it easy for a few weeks, you will be ok.

I had a 4th degree tear on Tuesday. I'm home now and still managing on paracetamol and iberprofen.

Soon as I had my catheter out I felt a million times better it makes it more uncomfy down there with it in. Lean forward when you wee and drink loads of water as it dilutes the wee and I'm yet to have a stingy wee 🤞🏻!

I have a tear in my bum and dont fear the poo it wasn't painful just get some water wipes and dab dab dab it clean after.

Don't be scared to look either! It's nothing like you'd imagine xx

I had a 3rd degree tear with my first baby.
I can still remember the pain and I feel for you.

On a positive note I can tell you that I have not had any further problems or complications form it.

I went on to have my 2nd baby (who was a much bigger baby!) naturally and escaped with just a few stitches.
They did give me the option of a C/section though!

I had a third degree with my dd. Best relief I had was sitting in a shallow bath with lavender oil and tea tree oil added. Add it to some whole milk first, then it mixes with the water rather than sitting on top of it. Then prop yourself up on a bed with towels underneath to allow yourself to air dry. It will get better!

I had a 4th degree tear and agree completely with using every opportunity to rest and be kind to yourself but do the physio pelvic floor stuff it works! My pain was manageable off pain relief a couple of weeks after birth and was gone completely by 6months (bare in mind I tore quite badly up into my bowel so I figured this was pretty quick!) now 2 years down the line it’s all fine. Good luck!
