Does anyone else get pissed off by the way in which childbirth is portrayed on the TV?

Or can anyone vouch for having had a birth just like Dawn's on Eastenders - i.e. on your back with legs akimbo?

I mean, fair enough if you have had an epidural or a medical ailment (like SPD) but does anyone else think that the portrayal of childbirth on the TV has become grossly antiquated and TV producers need to become a little more up to date?

So have I got this right then, that I might as well be calling myself Fanjomegan? Do I need to change my name?

I have no opinions on this but just wanted to say that I adore your name, Miss Joan.

And are you furnished and burnished?

Mine did come out looking like a 3month old though , and I did spend most of the time on my back legs akimbo before hurtling into theatre.

ooh does this mean I had a TV birth!! mind you I did look like shit, no make up and lots of stains . So perhaps not.

i'm a bit pissed off with MissJoan, actually. i could have sworn that was one of my names. i wonder if it got released by mistake during tech's auction? good name, anyway.

I also had that total high after having DD2 - wasn't tired for hours, just floating on a cloud of hormones.

Yep, just like Dawn. I kept screaming at the poor midwife, "it's in my birth plan, i want to sit up". Her response, "If you sit up, you are more likely to tear". needless to say i shut up, laid back, spread me legs and went for it.

Actually I was just like Dawn for all three of mine! Most comfortable position I found, and I couldn't let go of the G&A either!!!

nappyaddict · 25/06/2007 09:39

i controlled when i pushed. i told the mw i needed to push after only 3 hours of labour and she said it was impossible and not to push so i didn't. fast forward oh my you were right there's a head !!

also know someone who only had a c section after they had already been in labour 3 days.

Both mine were on my back, legs wide open. Once the contractions got really strong I couldn't physically be in any other position. I am very glad I gave birth like that especially as DD2 came out after 4 pushes which includes the one which broke my waters, after that she was bruised swollen and had blood shot eyes. I dread to think what it would have been like if I gave birth in a 'better' position!

I was convinced by the MW to be on my back, legs in the air, even though I'd planned to try on all fours. Seemed OK, apart from the massive, painful calf cramp I got. Apart from that, nothing like a TV birth, you don't see them being sick into a sink and falling asleep between pushes.
