How do you empty a birthing pool at home?

Just wondered if you had to empty it bucket load by bucket load down the sink or whether it comes with some sort of syphon that you can just attach to the bottom and it chucks it down the sink for you....

Also, what about any "floaters" in there??

DH did it by bucket.. but I didn't get to use the f*ckin thing anyway - just filled it

Dh tried to set up a siphon with the filling hose, but it didn't work so he used a bucket. I think he had too many vertical curves in the hose, and it would have worked had he used as short a length of hose as he could. Still, worth a try when you do your trial run with the pool. If you siphon the water out, then see if you can send it into an outside drain - easier than getting the hose up to the sink. Floaters need to be strained out with a sieve, and anything else will be left at the bottom of the pool and will need to be bucketed out as the siphon won't get every drop out. If you use a BPIAB then the liner can be used to remove the last bits.

Not that I laboured in our pool, I ended up in the hospital pool, but we've used ours everal times, indoors and out, as a paddling pool.

Siphon (ie hosepipe). apparently. I was upstairs snuggled with DD at the time. The last few inches were bundled up in the liner, and shoved in a bin bag.

Thanx Loopy, an interesting thread! :D Dont know what a BPIAB is tho! And where do you get the liners from? Are they suitable for any pool?

you can get pumps which empty for you.

Birth Pool In A box

The company supplying the pool sells the liners. I got mine from BPIAB with the pool.

We had a pump. It went very fast though and water got splashed ont he wallpaper - practise first.

Buy a child's fishing net to deal with the 'floaters'
