Had a show, so do I sweep or not today?

Ok, you all must be getting soooo bored of these threads, especially from us reluctant due in Juners!

Been having clear mucous for 2 days which has definitely turned pinked and thicker today. I have a MW appointment at 2.30 and suspect she will offer a sweep. I'm 40+2 - do I take it or let nature take it's course.

I'm also feeling really "out of sorts", bit chilly and shaky, and crampy and nauseous, but this could be just because suddenly it's all a bit real and now I am sh*t scared!

Well, if I was you I wouldn't have one as a show is a positive sign that labour will be soon and you're ONLY 40+2. I wouldn't want to risk taking bacteria from your vagina up to your cervix at this stage.

Being out of sorts is very normal and whether down to imminent labour or just being nervous who can tell?!

Enjoy the twilight of your pg, rest, eat and drink well, eliminate regular and conserve energy for the tough bit. Some brisk walking to help shuggle baby into pelvis would be great if it's dry where you are, but don't wear yourself out, take the stairs sideways when you can. Go and have lunch with a friend, or get a pedicure or some such, spoil yourself, you won't have much time to do so very soon.

Bumperlicious is going to have a baby!!!!

Hmm, sympathise as I think may have sweep next Tues when will also be 40+2. Intrigued by Klaw's stairs sideways tip. What does that do? And any particular side? I had a massively painful braxton hick at 6am this morning. And a show last week. My fave midwife is on duty next Tues so think I may take the sweep then if no baby, though I take Klaw's point of enjoying the peace while I can. Only just got flat ready and it's lovely having some time for feet up, and to finish novice knitting.
Only you can decide Bump what's best for you. Sounds like things are progressing which is great. I was offered a sweep yesterday and felt completely sick and nervous so declined. If in doubt say no - you can always go back the next day, or the next...

Thanks Klaw. Next question, I have had a couple of tiny clots of blood in it (like a period), is that normal?

Sorry Klaw, that sounded v short and ungrateful, I really appreciate all the advice, just freaking out a bit!

NoviceKnitter, before the show I still hadn't decided what to do, but my instinct was leaning towards leaving it another week. Our mw are only in the surgery for 1 day and even then for ridiculous hours, so will be lucky to get an appointment next week if I need one!

Novice, taking the stairs sideways means that the rocking of your pelvis helps baby to shift lower down pelvis and so put more pressure on cervix to aid dilation. Whichever way suits you! And shouggle (not sure how I should spell it) is such a great word for the action I''m referring to but not sure if you English ladies will know it!

Bump, yes, blood in the 'snot' is perfectly normal. You're TOTALLY normal, labour is about to start shortly, maybe today, maybe tomorrow but soon!

NoviceKnitter · 20/06/2007 09:51

Just shouggled downstairs to check the post!

Good luck Bump, sounds like you're nearly there - no wonder you're feeling peculiar. Can you discuss with midwife and try and fix an appt next week for sweep if nothing in meantime?

But also, nothing wrong with having one today if that's what you decide is right for you - will only start labour if it's ready to be started.

Good luck and bonnie baby to you!

lulumama · 20/06/2007 11:05

sounds good bumper ! i personally would not have a sweep at this stage as sounds like things are moving naturally....

good advice from Klaw

try to potter and just 'be', your body will let you know when it is time
