Emotional and teary after birth!

Had DD early hours of Monday morning and the rest of that day I felt euphoric. I got home yesterday morning and since then I haven’t stopped crying, I am in love with my baby girl and it’s the most amazing feeling which is often why I keep crying but I also find myself ‘missing’ the whole experience of the birth (first half was awful but loved it after epidural) I cried when I unpacked my bags and saw the nightie I gave birth to her in, I’m worried I’m going to get PND.
It was also very naive of me to not really think about what happens after you bring baby home, in the sense that she won’t be put down, I assumed she would settle in her sleepyhead etc.

I had heard baby blues were a thing but honestly didn’t think about it and no one warned me how I’d feel. Is this completely normal? How long will it last?!

TIA

It is pretty normal. Your hormones are in a state as you transition from pregnant to post pregnant. This is what triggers PND which many get to some degree.

If you don't feel more stable in a few weeks or you think the trend is bad consult your HV or GP. Do not try to cope with might be PND without help.

I'll go out on a limb here and say it's far too soon to worry about PND, though of course you're right to be aware of the possibility.
This sounds like baby blues which is the reaction to the absolutely massive shakeup of your physical , mental and emotional being that you've so recently been through.
Rest as much as you can, cuddle your daughter and accept all the practical help you can get.
I think you'll feel more in control even over the next couple of days.
Congratulations!

I cried the entire evening I came home with DD, I even wondered what we'd done in the middle of the night.

It was all hormones, a couple of days later I was right as rain and I'm now loving every single second of her except when she's overtired and screaming

So normal!

Totally normally. I cried every time my DH did something remotely 'nice'. Like making me a cup of tea, stroking my foot/hair, offering to do anything helpful. Buckets of tears.

I burst into tears as soon as I gave birth to my second child..it was very quick and although I was a second time mum I felt totally overwhelmed...they handed our son to my husband and then to me...The whole experience is so immense, take it easy, relax and just take your time...Rest when you can, get spoilt and enjoy your little one...😍

I had the baby blues for the first two weeks but then it lifted! Kept crying at adverts, strictly, any time the baby looked super cute etc!

Baby blues. Completely normal. I had my DD last Monday and felt awful Wednesday-Sunday last week but then picked up again. Don't worry too much. If it lasts longer than a week or two I would speak to a GP but i doubt it will.

Congratulations xx

DS* not DD!

Have two DDs so too used to typing that. Will have to get used to typing DS!

Completely normal - give yourself 2 weeks then review.

Re the settling. She has spent 40 weeks inside you. You are all she knows and you will be the only thing thst will comfort her for now. A sleepyhead just wont cut it yet.

Try to relax and let yourself feel how you feel. Everything will settle. You're doing great.

I think it’s just a hormone crash and they do that 2-3 days after giving birth. I had DD1 on a Monday and on the Weds i couldn’t stop crying. I was still in hospital and everytime a midwife spoke to me I’d end up in floods of tears Grin

It should settle after a week or two. Any longer than 2 weeks or so then do speak to your HV or GP.

Totally normal, I remember day 2 onwards for a week or so with both my boys I was an emotional wreck. My friend sent me a text which was completely normal but I took it as though she was being "off" with me and cried for 2 hours whilst holding the baby sat in his nursery in the rocking chair ConfusedGrin
Just be kind to yourself and don't worry about it.

I was so overcome with love and emotion when we brought DS home - I remember wondering if this was how I would feel for the rest of my life and thinking ‘how the fuck can I live like this?!’ Grin

I remember getting up one night and going through his little babygros for no reason, sobbing my heart out at the thought that he would one day be a man and not a little baby!

It’s completely normal to feel this way but it won’t last. Be kind to yourself op, we’re so vulnerable after we give birth. xx
