Independent Midwives survey

mears · 27/08/2004 10:08

The Indepenedent Midwives association is conducting a survey of midwives and mothers regarding a proposal to change the way maternity care is delivered. I have not read it all through myself yet but apparently it is a proposal for NHS midwives to work in a similar fashion to them, contracted by the NHS.

I thought mumsnet is the ideal place to canvass women. Let me know what you think.

Have filled in the survey mears. I recently lost my first pregnancy to mc at just off 7 weeks and am working on the next one - this month fingers crossed! Thought the model looked great, personally I'm not keen on hospitals (ironic as dh is a doc) or an approach with too much intervention - was in and out a lot as a child and it's put me off - this model lokks like an increase in choice for women around giving birth and that's alwys worth supporting. Hope your friends labour goes well today!

Thank you very much for that post Mears, have done the survey and contacted IMA in case I can do something with them in my day job.

mamerin · 27/08/2004 18:08

bump

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2004 18:39

I've completed it too.

midden · 27/08/2004 21:27

Just done this mears and forwarded it to a few people I know involved in/concerned with maternity services in Scotland. I know of two comm m/w in particular unhappy with the system and would love to work like this, wonder if you know them or how to get in touch, or will all midwives be offered the chance to have their views?

mears · 27/08/2004 23:52

If they are in the Royal College of Midwives then the survey has been mentioned in this month's Midwives' Journal I am sure.

Anyone else still to do the survey?

OP posts:

Mears do you know how recent this proposal is?

serenequeen · 28/08/2004 21:11

it is very recent, afaik.

mears · 28/08/2004 21:11

The survey is still current I believe - I think it was started in June.

Good, just thought I might have sent it to lots of people who might have seen it already! I asked them all to forward it anyway. Why on earth are proposals like this not getting more widespread media coverage? Or was there any in June? I will be contacting Scotsman!!!!

edam · 28/08/2004 21:32

Mears, do you know when they are going to close the survey? I'd like to mention it in a publication, but production schedules are so far in advance, won't be able to get it in until December... have called IMA but hadn't heard back from them by end Friday.

suedonim · 28/08/2004 21:33

I've done it.

jamiesam · 28/08/2004 22:39

bump/I've done it.
Always struck me as odd that nhs places such stress on continuity of (antenatal and postnatal) care, but care during labour is with complete stranger.

mears · 29/08/2004 00:11

Edam - sorry, I don't actually know. I have not seen any publicity in the press at all.

serenequeen · 29/08/2004 08:49

edam, search for the survey authors names on the IMA website - you should get contact details for them there.

mears · 29/08/2004 23:02

I'm new to Mumsnet - what's 'bump'?

mears · 30/08/2004 00:39

'bump' means bringing it back to the top of the list in active conversations incase people have missed it.
