Going in tomorrow 😔 My homebirth dream is gone.

Getting loads of twinges and tightenings but not going anywhere. Had three sweeps which have been ok.

Will it be quick and easy this late??! I want to request that they start by breaking my waters.

I had an induction Friday at 41+3 and was having lots of twinges and tightenings but literally no other signs of going in naturally and I was dreading it! I’d heard all these stories about inductions taking much longer and even when I went in and was given the pessery they said I likely would need more than one and wouldn’t have dd until Sunday or Monday!
I had the pessery at 7:30pm Friday and by 4:30am Saturday the contractions were two minutes apart but not too painful, by 7am I was 5cm and by around 9:30am I was 10cm and pushing, dd was born at half 10!
Overall I think it was a very positive induction experience when I was expecting the worst and dreading it!
Good luck, I honestly think I was just ready to go into labour but my body needed a little kick, hopefully if you’re having twinges and tightenings too it’ll be the same for you!

Thank you and congratulations! I hope I have it as easy as you! I've got to phone at 8.30am...

You don't have to be induced. You can still have a home birth. The risks of still birth 42 - 43 weeks are exactly the same as 37 to 38 weeks. Have a look on the aims website for the statistics.
I had a home birth at 42 + 4. I opted for expectant management once I got to 42 weeks, and baby was perfectly healthy. The birth was very easy. I faced a lot of opposition going against hospital policy but they knew they had to support my choices and help me make an informed decision, in the end the consultant couldn't argue any reason for me to go into hospital.

I was induced and still had a water birth at hospital. It was actually a really great birth. I was surprised as I was expecting it to be awful, but it wasn't at all. Good luck!

I argued my case yesterday. The consultant was a right cow. Maybe my age,37, is a factor?? I had a scan and the baby is estimated at 9lb 4 so don't know that leaving it longer would be good 😔

I was induced at 41 weeks. First baby. Pessary in at 3pm, baby out by lunchtime the following day. I had contractions from midnight which were 1-2 minutes apart but weren't too intense until 8am. It doesnt have to be a horror story!
I wanted a fairly hands off, non medical water birth which I had to give up on but the amazing midwife made sure I got to sit in the bath for a few hours to ease pain, made sure I didn't give birth on my back, made sure cord clamp was delayed and made sure I had golden hour and first breastfeed with baby before anything else was done.

Your age probably is a factor as they'll be wanting you to follow the prescribed route, you can always change your mind if you go in tomorrow and have a chat, read up on the risks and ask them. And talk to your midwife if you can. Consultants only tend to see managed or difficult births so will nearly always recommend hospital, when often the risks of going over due and having a home birth are less than being induced.
Having said that, I've known people to have easy, quick inductions, and were home before they knew it. If you decide to be induced make it clear you wanted a home birth and they should help facilitate a peaceful environment for you.

I went in for induction at 41+5. I arrived at the hospital at 8:30am, put on a monitor and told I was contracting. I couldn't feel anything. I had a sweep and pains started a bit later. DD born at 6:30 that evening. Good luck with your labour and birth xx

My DD was 9lb12oz. She was very overcooked!

My 42+ week inductions we're both done in 11 hours with just one pessary.

My 41 + 40 week inductions were much much longer and needed ARM but I still delivered without assistance.

I think it's more likely than not for it to be reasonably quick and straightforward. You're having lots of twinges etc which does mean you body is doing something to get ready!

Thanks

I was booked in for an induction at 42 wks, went in the night before so 41+6 and labour started during the night. You may just start on your own, not long now!
