Hey guys! Looking to see if anyone has been or is in the same situation as me.

So 2 and a half years ago I laboured with my daughter was in early labour for a few days then progressed from 4cm to 9cm over 14 hours due to my daughter being back to back and was took for an emergency csection & was 9lb 1oz.

I'm due on the 24th of November with daughter#2 who is currently measuring on growth scan above the 95th centile & is expected to be on the larger scale like my daughter. I have always wanted to deliver naturally and have opted in for a VBAC and have been told the risk of shoulder dystocia for this reason I will be taken before I'm 38 weeks. I have to go on the 31st for a sweep (I will be 36+4). I have been told if I need the induction I will not be allowed the pessary due to the risk of my scar rupturing & will only be allowed the drip if they can break my waters. If not it will be a section. I really wanna avoid the csection due to the recovery and have a newborn and 2 year old - any tips or stories would be greatly appreciated.

Had exactly the same re induction with my second. They can do a balloon thing but it's not very successful. My section wasn't due to a large baby, it was preeclampsia. So not sure if that makes a difference. I opted to wait it out and try and go naturally. Didn't happen and I had an elective section. Which I was fine about. Hope that helps?

I don’t have experience so maybe my opinion is not helpful but I’m amazed they would want to encourage a baby to come so early purely on the basis of them measuring large. Whilst 37 weeks is considered term, as I understand it it’s preferable health wise for babies to come as close to 40wk as possible.

My second dd, now 4wks, was measuring above 95th centile and there were no concerns about this as a standalone issue, I had a home birth at 40+13 and she was 10lb5! Delivered with no issues and no pain relief other than tens. I know this is just one story but I wonder why I was told explicitly by consultant that large size was not a big concern. I wasn’t vbac so maybe it’s to do with that but I can’t imagine a previous section increases risk of shoulder dystocia? Or now I think about it, is it because you haven’t had a previous vaginal delivery they don’t know how your body will be?

Yep had the same situation - laboured to 10cm with my first then taken for emergency section as he was back to back and not moving an inch.

I was also keen for a vbac with my second, was told as I'd laboured first time it could be quick but needed to be induced (diabetic) with no pessary like you. Had the balloon but it didn't work for me at all. You have to have it in for 24 hours - that meant a night on the induction ward with little sleep. They tried to break my waters before and after too which was very painful. I did have contractions but it didn't progress.
Eventually told I had less than 50% chance of a vbac and so we decided to go for a section. Ward was so busy this didn't happen until the middle of the night so that was the second night of no sleep!

The third night in hospital I didn't get much sleep due to all the noise of the newborns and actually started hallucinating!

I really wish I'd just gone for a planned section, recovery was fine second time around.

Good luck!

Don't always assume that a vaginal birth has a faster recovery either- it took me months to feel even vaguely normal after my vaginal, and I had a very average sized baby with an 'easy' birth.

My first son was born via planned c section at 38 weeks because of his size and being breach. He was 9lb 4oz. Healing afterwards was slow and painful. 5 yrs later my 2nd son was born also via planned c section this time at 37 weeks because my first son had left my womb so stretched and had created a 'window' I wasn't allowed to contract in case of rupture. The recovery 2nd time around was amazing, I was up and around and out a day and a half later. No stitches on the outside it really was amazing. I think it was much better because I was prepared with pain relief and just wanted to get back to my first son. I was so organised 2nd time around which I put down to caring for my 1st child. Good luck with your next delivery however it may go. Wishing you to a speedy recovery x

Hmm hate to admit it but I totally agree with @smellsofelderberries here... my easy straightforward vaginal birth (pool, gas and air only, minor tear, home same day) took me over 6 months to physically recover from!
