Voluntary c section and tubes tied?

bumblebee39 · 19/10/2018 23:43

Does anyone know if I can ask for a voluntary c section after having to be induced twice and wanting my tubes tied this time afterwards? Tia X

Also if you can have a c section without a spinal or epidural? X

You can request a c section. No way would they do it without anaesthetic and nor would you want them to.

PatchworkElmer · 20/10/2018 09:00

So you’d want a general anaesthetic? Young need to start by asking for a c-section and see what they say.

My friend asked for her tubes to be tied at the same time, and was told it had to be a separate operation- that might be different in other areas though.

bumblebee39 · 20/10/2018 09:14

I'm not allowed spinal injections due to problems with a previous epidural so would either have to get a general or natural birth. However my "natural births" have both involved many painful days ending up with the induction drip.

I think I might just book tubal ligation separately, as said before it may need to be a separate op anyway. I am very much single anyway and need to have lazer surgery to remove a cyst and endo after I have the baby as well so they may be able to do the tube tying op when I get the endo lazer surgery etc: anyway X

I had this done after previous traumatic births
I thought I'd have to fight a bit harder but after hearing my stories they just said yes no problem
I had a spinal though so not sure whether they'd agree to put you to sleep

bumblebee39 · 20/10/2018 12:57

Yeah I think the spinal might be a moot point on it. I know they were not allowed to give me spinal or epidural with DC2 due to problems with the one I had with DC1 and possible nerve damage. I know I don't want anymore DC after this one (unplanned but that's beyond the point, all my kids were but very much wanted etc.) I think 3 is more than enough especially doing it alone. So don't want to end up in this situation again as I know I definitely am done now.

You would have to have a general for your c section but I don't see why they wouldn't consider you for a section.

However, I have looked into sterilisation during a section as I'm having my third (and last!) tomorrow but it's apparently not as effective during a section due to swelling. So I'm going to look at other options after the birth instead.

sola82 · 21/10/2018 19:34

I recently had an ELCS. The doctor asked me if I wanted to be sterilized at the same time, so they can do it. I don't know if they would agree to the GA though

Mooey89 · 21/10/2018 19:36

My friend has just had a baby by elective C section and was sterilised at the same time. She’s 30 too so young so it can be done.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 21/10/2018 19:41

I'm 30 and had my sterilisation done at 29 during a c section. I have four children though and had four sections so they did encourage me to have it done.

bumblebee39 · 21/10/2018 19:47

I will be 29 and single parent to 3 by then. X

LeftRightCentre · 21/10/2018 19:51

I think you're going to struggle to get a CS under GA. That's usually a crash situation or someone with low platelets or the like. It can depress the baby's respiration.

Anm4 · 21/10/2018 20:32

I'm nearly 3 weeks post section and tubal ligation, was baby number 4 for me and second section, they offered me the sterilisation to be done and i was happy for this as me and my husband do not want anymore. I'm 27 so i think it just depends on how many children you have and if its what you want, unsure on how they would get round the spinal issue etc you would have to discuss with your consultant. Good luck!

Ploppymoodypants · 21/10/2018 20:33

Wow thank you for this post OP. I had no idea this was an option (C section booked for 4 weeks time). And have spent the last 8 months begging DH to have a vacectomy. Which he is open to, but non commital. But if I can be sterilised when this baby is born then all the better.
I will ask first thing tomorrow!
Good luck with your request OP.

bumblebee39 · 21/10/2018 20:45

I may have to have a spinal if I'm allowed one I think I'd need one for tubal ligation anyway? Not sure X

bumblebee39 · 21/10/2018 20:46

Really want a c section after two deadly induced stop start labours but need to weigh up the pros and cons because I don't want to have nerve damage either X

Wheredidthebackboobscomefrom · 21/10/2018 20:58

I also couldn't have a spinal due to prior spinal surgery. I was put under GA for my csection. I'm expecting again and have asked for a c-section very early on but will discuss all options closer to my due date.

wowbutter · 21/10/2018 21:02

I had a tubal ligation during my section eit months ago,and was given a general anaesthetic due to chronic back pain. My consultant had no massive issue with any of it.

bumblebee39 · 21/10/2018 22:25

I know c section under general is not ideal but might be the only way I can deliver this baby considering issues with previous epidural, problems with local anaesthesia in general, possible nerve damage and difficult induced labels with other 2 DC I will speak to the GP and obstetrics though and go from there X

Even if (God forbid) something happened to this baby I know I still want my tubes tied and do not want anymore. I wanted my tubes tied last time but was told to wait and now due to failed contraception I am pregnant again and recently a single parent to 2 going on 3. I know my mind is made up regardless.

OP posts:
bumblebee39 · 21/10/2018 23:41

I will add, although all my kids were unplanned they are all loved and wanted. Pre-emoting that question

OP posts:
bumblebee39 · 21/10/2018 23:42

Pre empting sorry

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 22/10/2018 17:39

I had no issues getting them to agree to an general anesthetic for a repeat c-section although in the end as I went into labour early, ended up with a spinal.

I was turned down point blank when I asked about sterilisation though. I got the "we can discuss when you are pregnant with number 3 if you want" conversation.
