Has anyone read the Grantly Dick Reid book "childbirth without Pain"? Heard about it (can't remember where) and was wondering if it is as good as i heard or just more to fret over?

It's actually called 'Childbirth without Fear' (and I think the idea is that fear is what causes the pain) I haven't read it but keep meaning too!

Quite heavy going. I read about half but haven't gone back to it.

Ina May Gaskin is more readable I find.

Hypnobirthing is based on his work so you could read the Marie Morgan book.

As to whether it works, I'll be able to tell you in about three weeks (and there are some fab stories on here too).

Birthing from Within is good, but a bit american. Can be summed up by "Labour is hard work, it hurts, but you can do it". Which is pretty cool.

Thanks all for the suggestions. i finish work next week and reckon i'll spend a fortune in Borders buying all the birth books I can carry.

And best wishes, precious, for 3 weeks time. keep us posted with the news.
