Did anyone find that the spinal didn’t work for them? I’m terrified it won’t wotk and I’ll feel the operation/there’ll have to put me under general anesthetic which is a huge fear of mine.

I had an emcs and epidural 17yrs ago. Didn't feel a thing. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. I know it's easier said than done, but try to relax and get a good nights sleep as from tomorrow, you're life will not be the same ever again (in the nicest possible way) maybe get a bit whoo-whoo and find a guided relaxation track online to help. Be calm and zen!
Good luck for tomorrow...you get to meet your amazing little baby!!!! Flowers

I’ve had three; all fine and didn’t feel a thing. Try to rest and good luck.

They'll check you like 100 times to make sure its working and continue to ask during the op to make sure you can't feel a thing don't worry.

You do feel a bit of pressure and rummaging around but it's not painful

I had my baby my ECS 4 months ago and I was shaking like a leaf. I wish I hadn’t been so worried it was such an easy procedure for me. The do loads of tests moving upwards on your body to check if you can feel things before they go ahead with the procedure. The lovely man that done my epidural sat behind me at all times to check I was feeling okay and the whole thing was over so quickly. I was also up walking within 12 hours and home in 24. Good luck xxx

I had this worry and the anaesthetist tests you very well. He even told me when they had started cutting which was a relief as I didn't feel a thing! I am now a doctor and have assisted in loads of c sections and have never witnessed or even heard of a woman feeling any pain during a c section, especially a planned one. You'll be fine!

Srsly · 16/10/2018 21:40

FWIW I actually enjoyed mine 😆

It definitely worked, they were so so lovely and kind and they kept checking everything. There were two anesthetists there so I felt very safe.

I was absolutely petrified before hand.

But I can say I positively enjoyed my CSection. It was calm, everything was carefully controlled. It was an absolute world away from my first birth which was traumatic and difficult.

Good luck

You’ll be fine, I’ve had 2, one 3 years ago, it’s scary to think you’ll be awake but I promise you won’t feel any pain, I had a fast recovery after both.
Good luck

I had a fantastically positive c-section experience, and that was an emergency one after 48 of failed induction.
Like someone said previously, they check you so many times to make sure you can’t feel anything. The anaesthetist stayed right next to me the whole time, explaining what was happening etc. I was on my feet after about 8 hours (from memory, it was quite a blur!). I stopped taking the painkillers after a week because I felt absolutely fine.
Good luck - it’s such an amazing adventure having a baby!

I had a c section 3 weeks ago. There is no chance they will start anything when you can still feel something. They check and check.
They wash your abdomen first and it feels completely different. You feel movement but not the liquid or the cool temperature.
By the way, the spinal injection doesn’t hurt at all. I thought it would at least a little.

orphanblack1 · 16/10/2018 21:50

I had one 5 weeks ago and it was fine. Worst part was the cannula going into my hand and that’s only because I have silly tiny veins.

The spinal didn’t really hurt, a bit uncomfortable but that was all and I’m massively scared of needles

I asked not to be told what was going on and had a drape. It was all over really quickly.

Good luck and let us know how you get on but you’ll be just fine! X

I had a spinal block in prep for an EMCS but ended up delivering with forceps and had an episiotomy. The spinal block was heaven! Didn't feel a thing. Good luck tomorrow you'll be great x

Let us know when little one's arrived!

laurenluke2017 · 17/10/2018 16:44

Hi cathy, private message me when your ready. Hope it all went well and that I helped you as much as I could. @CathyandHeathcliff xx

GreenMeerkat · 18/10/2018 21:51

Hope the birth went okay.

I had an epidural during labour which didn't work and a spinal for c section twice now which have both worked. I think it's rare for a spinal not to work.

wasthataburp · 30/10/2018 16:55

I had one 16 months ago and it didnt work for me. After half hour i could still feel everything apart from my big toe. dont worry about it because they totally make sure you are numb before hand and I just got a second dose of it and that worked fine!

I am having another in January so suspect the same thing will happen and its not put me off!

Littlemissdaredevil · 01/11/2018 21:31

I loved my spinal. I had hours of agonising contractions with a back to back baby and it worked almost instantly. They test you lot including with ice cubes to see if you can feel anything

MorningsEleven · 01/11/2018 21:34

Mine worked but I had a freak out when I saw my legs in the moon boots. Bye bye dignity.

MorningsEleven · 01/11/2018 21:42

Oh, had a crash section too. The GA was bloody brilliant. I think I was loads of fun afterwards, especially with the morphine- really excited, chatting shit then randomly passing out and shouting "I'm awake, I'm awake! Who are you?". Followed by the 2am munchies, which I cured with am entire pack of chocolate biscuits and another hit of morphine.
