C section worries

I’ve got one on Wednesday, I’m scared I’m going to bleed out or my uterus won’t contract properly afterwards.
How likely is this scenario?

Very unlikely. Fwiw I had PPH after a vaginal delivery and needed surgery for retained placenta. Planned c sections are very safe

You'll be fine - good luck

buckeejit · 13/10/2018 21:13

I've had 2 & both fine-take winder tablets or peppermint tea-there's a lot of internal gas afterwards. I also think I benefited from arnica pillules - I healed v fast & they are unlikely to cause any harm but I know homeopathy isn't for everyone. Good luck & congratulations 😁

Every unlikely but obviously the risk is there.

FWIW I had an EMCS at 31 weeks and despite everything it was very calm.

My top tip would be to keep taking painkillers even if you feel like you don't need, it's a lot easier to keep on top of the pain than get on top of it.

buckeejit · 13/10/2018 22:07

Oh yes, agree about the painkillers - I never take anything but thought, I'll not bother, it's not really sore, but much better taking them as a course on this occasion.

Thanks all. I don’t know why I’m being so irrational (actually I do, it’s anxiety again).

I should be focusing on the baby, not the worst case scenario!

Good luck !! I had a c section. . It was half elective - my body had a failed labour and it was too dangerous to go any further . If I was to have a c section again my advice would be to talk through drugs . I was that off my face I didn't hold my DC for hours until the point staff thought it was unnatural, I'd ask the doctors to have as much involvement in the section as possible and as soon as baba is delivered to be placed on skin to skin to mummy, my baby was passed to my mum and I still hate that to this day . Make your instructions clear x

I had an emergency c section in China. Everything was great and recovery was fairly straightforward. I assume timings are the same where you are, but it was less than 45 mins from putting the epidural in to seeing my son!

silverpetals · 15/10/2018 00:54

I’ve recently had a c section and compared to my severe 3rd degree tear that needed extensive surgery to fix, along with a huge haemorrhage I was definitely nervous about a section but it was absolutely amazing and I lost hardly any blood in comparison, all within very safe normal levels. Felt ten times better afterwards and found recovery tough for the first few days but after then I healed very quickly. Just keep on taking your pain killers regularly. It was a really lovely experience. Good luck op x

I just had a c section it was wonderful

NCPuffin · 15/10/2018 01:04

No idea how likely these scenarios are, but I'd say not at all! I had a caesarean 4 weeks ago and only lost 400ml of blood, despite having bled very seriously with previous surgery. I don't think I was even warned about the risks of my uterus not contracting? Remember vaginal deliveries are certainly not without risk either! I have found the recovery very doable (just don't lift heavy things - I did and it really set me back) and know of at least two women who had vaginal deliveries and struggled more than I did. I second the idea of making your wishes clear to the surgical team - I wrote a birth plan and they were totally ok with it.

villainousbroodmare · 15/10/2018 01:13

I've had two, EMCS and ELCS. Both quick and lovely. No issues with recovery, though I second the PP's suggestion of peppermint to alleviate those bizarre gas pains (which I mistook for bad back). Nobody will let you bleed excessively.
