Anyone dealt with this, any tips? Had a fast labour with DC2 5 days ago and the piles are so uncomfortable.

I had a baby 5 weeks ago and you have my sympathy because mine were horrendous!!

I just applied plenty of Anusol cream after each visit to the toilet, used ice at night (wrapped in a flannel) to ease the discomfort and they did eventually go down.

Pelvic floor exercises can help ‘draw’ them back in! They’re horrible aren’t they!

Merename · 01/10/2018 21:59

Yes horrible! I had mild ones in the pregnancy from time to time but they passed in days, but these feel so swollen and sore and I’m aware of them all the time. Just got anusol today so hoping it helps, and will try ice and pelvic floor, thank you both. Do you remember how long they took to go? Are we talking weeks of this?! I only had first degree tears this time so was feeling like I’d recover so quickly down there but this is a bit grim.

Get a ‘squatty potty’ for the toilet (Amazon sell them), so that your feet can be raised when you go to the loo. This reduces the straining and helps with piles, as well as being better for your pelvic floor.

I had them too. I can’t remember how long they took to go. I think it took weeks for them to become a lot better, but I think it was a few months on and off before they totally disappeared if I’m honest. But they’re long gone now and haven’t come back (2 years).

It’s horrible - postpartum is rough. Hope you recover soon!

The only thing that helped was going to the GP and getting prescribed cream.

Makes me shudder thinking about how bad they were.

Drink tonnes of water, too. You really don't want to be constipated right now.

Congratulations on the baby. It's all worth it in the end Grin

God I've been there and so I feel for you. Truly miserable aren't they! For piles the GP can prescribe Scheriproct ointment which has a low steroid in it to shrink those fu*kers down and a better painkiller than you'll find in the anusol ones. You can also order online via Pharmacy2U or those other online doctor websites (PushDoctor app is brill btw and you actually speak to a real GP but they send the prescription to a local pharmacy and you pop in and pick it up... far less embarrassing!).

If it feels like pooping glass it might be a fissure. The doctor has a great ointment for that too - GTN it's called. Which can cause a headache but will help so much.

Hope you feel better soon!

Germaloids suppositories. suppositories so much better than cream and really easy to use. They saved me!

daphine2004 · 03/10/2018 06:05

What @ToddlerTamerMumma said. Your GP is your friend in this situation. I had piles and anal fissures (tears in bottom) at the same time and as it felt like cut glass each time I went I became constipated and had to have several packets of fibrogel a day. The pain was worse than labour IMO.
Definitely have a stool softener whilst they heal.

A lot of good advice and sympathy here, thanks everyone. They feel better already after a couple of days of prunes etc, anusol and wiping with baby wipes. My yoga teacher also told me to do a ‘polar bear pose’, on all fours on forearms and do pulses of pelvic floor to draw them back in. Less swollen so feeling less aware of them all the time. I don’t have anal fissures thankfully, kudos to those of you who survived that Shock

It may help if you raise your feet when pooing - I just use a couple of spare loo rolls to put my feet on. Also, apricot juice is much nicer than prune and has the same effect. Good luck!

Mummygoogler · 04/10/2018 23:49

Oh God mine were worse than child birth! I was rolling around in bed in agony for around 4 days! Germaloid spray....constant witch hazel pads on them and as many warm baths/showers as I could. I was also on the strongest ibprofen and cocodamol. Took about 2 week before I could sit down without shooting pains through my body! Hope they get better soon.

SleepWarrior · 04/10/2018 23:54

Seconding the suppositories. You put them in after a bowel movement so they get as long as possible inside. Also, once you feel a lot better there may still be some haemorrhoids inside which only the suppositories could get to. It's best to hit them hard so they don't come back again - not something you want lingering on for years if it can be avoided!

MissSmiley · 05/10/2018 00:03

My advice is don't suffer in silence for too long, I had similar fast labour for my second and waited five months before going to the dr who referred me immediately for banding
Best thing I did and I wish I hadn't waited so long
