Sorry, I don't understand your question. What do you mean by "til only 2 weeks"? (Congrats on the pregnancy by the way!)

Congrats on your pregnancy!
I'm going to assume you mean you would like to have private ante natal care and then deliver in a NHS hospital?

A few things to consider....

Firstly - at 6 weeks you can't be 100% sure your pregnancy will be straightforward - we all hope it will be obviously. At the first sign of trouble, you will be recommended back to the NHS - not just on cost grounds but local ability to offer private ante natal care for pregnancies needing extra care.

Second - finding a Obstetrician who offers just private ante natal care may be tricky unless you're in central London. If not will you really want to travel from outer to inner London?

third - it would still be a good idea to book in with an NHS Midwife so that you are expected at your chosen NHS hospital. She will want to do blood work, which might be a good idea to accept as could get pricey.

fourthly - wouldn't the money sent on scans and appointments be better spent on other things associated with your baby?

The best way to find out comparative costs would be to phone Great Portland st hospital or the Lindo wing at St Mary's Paddington and ask them.

Congrats OP! As previous poster suggested, you cannot be entirely sure at this point that it will be a straightforward pregnancy. And if it is, surely a private midwife service is less justifiable? I'd think the main reason for using them is that they may be able to provide certain services that the NHS don't? I guess you'd see the same midwife all the way through and have more freedom with appointments, but the cost can be up to around £5000 for the entire pregnancy for a private midwife; that's a LOT of money before you've even considered everything you need for a baby, and it may not include separate optional additions to your private care.

With some private midwives I'd imagine you'd get more support with things like breastfeeding, labour practice etc and if you've got the money just lying around, there's no reason why you shouldn't pay for it.

But however much people criticise the NHS, I think that even when it goes wrong, they do an amazing job (and for FREE!). As long as you do your own research into pregnancy, labour options, possible things that can go wrong in birth, postnatal care, breastfeeding etc, the NHS is an amazing service.

Would be interested in hearing your reasons to go private OP.

I think it important to work out why you want private care and for which elements. I couldn’t really fault my nhs antenatal care but in both pregnancies I have taken some additional private tests (group b strep and harmony) where I felt they would be beneficial. If I was going to do private for any stage I’d do post natal without a doubt.

Entirely agree with PP who said it'd be more beneficial to go private postnatally. I definitely would have if I'd had the money to Smile

You’d just pay an OB for each appointment and to be honest is a bit of a waste if you are delivering NHS. Better to develop a relationship with the midwifery/medical team where you are actually delivering?
Instead why not have your scans privately (eg at Fetal Medicine Centre recommend Harmony test with 10 week scan, 12 week, 20 week and 35 week well-being scan - they always have the best technology and fetal med specialists) and perhaps have the odd check up with a consultant OB to review your notes and scan results and a reassuring chat after any tests and the major scans? And save a bit to move to a private rooms postnatally if it’s an option for you.
