natural birth after 2 c sections

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who doesn't have computer access.

She is pregnant with her 3rd child and has been told that she will have to have another c section. Her first child was delivered by emergency c section over 5 years ago and her second child was a planned c section. The second child will be 15 months old when the 3rd one is due.

She would very much like to have a natural vaginal birth but her consultant is saying no.
He's explained to her the risks involved but can't/wont tell her the percentage chances/likelyhood of those risks actually happening.

She is fit and healthy and in her early 30s.

Can anyone shed any light on this situation please or offer me any information/advice to pass on to my pal?

Many thanks in advance.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

A close friend has just had a VBA2C! Like your friend, first emergency CS 5 just over 5 years ago, planned one 2.75 yrs later and a vaginal birth 2.5 years after that. Same age too. As I understand it, one consultant was happy for her to try (in hospital) but another was appalled. Obviously the first one won. Midwives were V supportive. She was over the moon.

She did have a thread here last year although I've no idea what her posting name is/was so can't help you find it.

I was always under the impression that after 2 you had to have another section, i must be wrong!

I asm sure mears will know (poor mears she has to answer all our questions, has anyone made her moderator of childbirth yet?)

thanks soupdragon. HEr consultant has said that he obviously cant make her agree to a c section (she has to sign a consent form doesn't she) but she doesn't want to put herself or the baby to unnecessary risks but she is passionate about having a natural birth. Perhaps she could ask to be referred to another consultant. Is that what happened to your friend do you know?

I'm not sure TBH. If this had been posted last week I could have quizzed her about it when I saw her at the weekend!

Whereabouts is your friend? Not a little SW of Guildford I presume?

I have a friend who had a home-water-VBA3C! Suggest your friend gets in touch with NCT on 0870 444 8707. They'll be able to put her on the right track. HTH.
