Hi. Has anyone has a c section at the jr oxford or one where your hospital uses the enhanced recovery programme?

My hospital did this - had the section at 4.30pm
and they wanted to send me home next morning. I asked to stay on as I wanted a little more help with latching but prob next time I would go home, would recover better at home and my ward was so understaffed that my husband was doing most things for me. Any specific questions?

My hospital did this too. Had my c section at 10:30 and was discharged the following day around 5:30pm.

Mine too. Had my 2nd section at 6am (I went into labour early and convinced them to deliver her before she got wedged in the birth canal like her brother), got out at lunch time the following day. We were held up waiting for my full blood count and dd's hearing check otherwise it would have been earlier.

I was out next day with both DC2 and 3. Both fine, they got catheter out and me walking around the day of birth, discharge next day. I found it much better than my section with DS1 were I was stuck in bed for over 24 hours and then in for 3 days. I just wanted to get home and into my own bed.

Out just over 24hrs later, the hardest thing for me was getting in and out of the car. Spent the next 24 hours on the sofa relaxing but at least we could sleep unlike in the ward

I can't think of anything worse! I am completely unable to relax at home if there is even the tiniest thing needs doing. Was looking forward to 2 nights in hospital after my section!

My hospital does this but I ended up staying in for 5 days due to waiting in bloods and baby losing weight. To be fair I was glad of this. As a first time mum with bad anxiety having my day 3 hormone melt down in hospital wasn’t very nice but at least I was surrounded by professionals.

I’m having a c section and have been told I’ll be in this enhanced recovery programme too.

I’m happy about it, as I hate hospitals and don’t want to stay in any longer than I have to.

Thissameearth · 26/09/2018 09:31

I had enhanced recovery. I wouldn’t worry as you can simply ask to stay in longer, I reluctantly did (even though I was desperate to get home) for help with breastfeeding but ward was so busy and staff so variable in knowledge that it was pointless and paid for Lactation consultant at home. I left feeling really down and absolutely shattered, was so glad to get home and to get some help from my husband and eat when I wanted to etc. Getting out early is only one element and it’s predominantly to limit exposure to infection. It’s also about high carb load before and afterwards etc so it’s all good stuff in your interests. And oh god I just remembered using shared toilet and shower with 4 others, all of us bleeding and being told to leave our trays of urine in bathroom afterwards which took ages to be collected that was key to me wanting out ASAP! Good luck I really recovered well from mine and there is a certain camaraderie on the ward I suppose whilst you’re in

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/09/2018 11:12

overagain I think it's very much optional. I was offered the choice of staying in longer if I felt I needed it but was going home that day with or without my blood test results.

Shelley54 · 26/09/2018 15:49

Yes I did this. Baby born 10am and I was Home at 1pm the next day. I was walking at 4pm and they took the catheter and cannula out at 6pm. It was my 2nd section and I was keen to get up and about.

I will be put on this. I’m a bit nervous tbh as you never really know how you will feel straight after a csection. I also have a long journey home from the hospital and the house will be a mess when I get home and there will be no food cooked.
My community midwife said I can transfer to the midwife led unit if I don’t feel ready to go home. I suppose it depends how busy the MLU is at the time as they only have 6 beds.
