Very first signs of labour

What was your earliest sign of labour?

I'm having a planned CS, but my registrar freaked me out (unintentionally) by saying they might not do an EMCS if I am already in labour, and to go in immediately as soon as I have a sign (even if it would normally be considered too early).

I didn't go into labour with my first as I was induced, so I don't know what to look for. Also, I'm not due until next year but now my anxiety triggers have all been activated Smile

What do I need to look for?

Ah @daisy2990 I'm afraid you will get such a mixed bag of reactions as its so so different from individual to individual pregnancy. It may be worth checking what your doctor meant when they said to go in at the first sign.

My first was dull period pains that didn't bother me from 3pm. 9pm waters broke on the loo. 9.30pm strong frequent contractions started no more than 10 mins apart.

Best wishes for a safe delivery and speedy recovery x x

The registrar basically said go in as soon as 'Things start happening', nothing more specific than that!

That's such an unhelpful comment from your registrar, especially as so many 'first signs' of labour can easily be confused with general pregnancy aches and pains.

The most obvious signs would be:
-waters breaking
-a bloody show
-contractions 5 minutes apart

BUT the worry there would be, would they already class you as 'in labour' at that point.

Whereas the less obvious signs would be:
-low back pain
-more frequent tightenings with pain
-low front cramps
-starting to lose your plug

And so many of these can happen weeks before you even go into labour. They really need to be more specific with what to look out for, unfortunately.
