Induction 37 weeks

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has any stories/advice - good and bad welcome!
I am being induced next week at 37 weeks for restricted growth/reduced movement episode.
Second pregnancy, first was text book - waters went, baby born 12 hours later with no interventions.

No idea what process they will use to induce! Or if there is a higher chance of it ended in a c section with a small baby!

Mine was reverse - 1st child was induced at 36 wks for the same reasons but 2nd all ok and totally natural. I think the fact you’re body has already given birth naturally statistically leans towards you having a fairly straight forward induction and birth so I wish you good luck and hope everything goes ok! My induction ended in a Cat 1 emergency caesarean… I had 3 membrane sweeps, then the prostaglandin (i think) then they broke my waters… but still nothing and then put on the IV - syntocinon which brought on the contractions but I did not dilate…. no movement/heartbeat - wasn’t dilated enough even for a scrape test (check oxygen levels from scraping the foetus’ head and getting blood)… so had the c-section…. son had a few breathing problems when he was born but nothing serious. Also born at 4lbs (scan predicted 6lbs) and he was in SCBU until he hit the magic 5lb. You’re in good hands, whatever happens will happen and you’ll have a beautiful baby one way or another. Good luck xx

I’m the other way around too, first baby 6lbs 4 induction at 37 weeks & second natural at 39 with waters going at 8am kicking off at 2pm & baby out by 4pm.

To me inductions are a lot different. I had the pessary, at 9pm. 4cm & on delivery by 10am & waters broken at 1pm & baby out by 2pm.
The contractions are a lot more intense, if you want to get off your back, tell the doctors & midwives. I didn’t get a break in contractions from 2am until 10am when I started walking. The pain was worse so if you want pain relief definitely ask & lush for it.

Good luck & hopefully it goes well.

I was induced at 38w for DC1, and at 35+4 for DC2. Both were planned inductions for medical reasons, but DC2's was brought forward due to placental issues. I was on continuous monitoring in labour both times, with syntocin drip after waters broken.

My second labour was a good experience. Took a couple of days to get started with the pessaries, but once I was dilated enough for waters to be broken it progressed quickly, and DD2 was born in less than 5 hours with just gas and air. I was warned she may need special care. She didn't - just needed to go under the jaundice lamp for a while on the ward. We were kept in for 6 days due to her prematurity. But she was fine, BF well, was a good weight (7lbs-ish).

I've been induced with both babies. I think induction when you've given birth before has a fairly high chance of working and it tends to be really fast.

They generally start off with a pessary to soften your cervix. With my second I didn't need this step and they broke my waters. As my blood pressure was creeping up i got put on the drip (had the clip on babies head but still pretty mobile) and was fully dilated and pushing within 45 minutes.

Thank you all so much :) I would assume that at 37 weeks my cervix may not be favourable, even though it's my second, but maybe I'll be in for a surprise! A friend had a sweep then straight on to the drip for her second birth and said it was hell - so I'm very much prepared to ask for an epidural straight up if the drip is mentioned!
Going to re-pack the hospital bag tonight on the basis I'm probably going to be in a while, just incase, then if it's quick it will be a bonus I'm not expecting! Not sure if perhaps under the circumstances I won't be allowed to labour too long, and if baby doesn't make an appearance within day 24hours they might rather emcs!

I was induced at 37 + 1 due to reduced movements and baby measuring big. My cervix was 3 Cm when they checked it so we all agreed it was favourable!

Only ended up needing my waters broken and a tiny bit of hormone towards end of labour to hurry it along when he got distressed.

2 and a half hours ish.

If you've already had one straightforward and relatively quick vaginal birth odds are extremely high the induction will be successful.

I was same as you - one textbook spontaneous labour at 40 weeks with first, induced at 37 weeks with second. They had to put me on the drip and crank it way the hell up in the end, I think because I would never have gone into labour naturally at that gestation, but once the induction took it was quick. The drip can be pretty intense so I would consider epidural.

PinkAvocado · 13/09/2018 17:02

I only had a tiny bit via drip and the pain increase was significant so if it happened that way again I would say yes to more drugs.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 13/09/2018 21:46

The drip is intense and can be very painful.... but you honestly may not have time for an epidural. It works SO quickly! Hopefully you can just get your waters broken and have as natural a labour as possible. Good luck!
