Think it's happening but can't tell

Oh here we go again!

All yesterday and all last night I've been in really bad pain, it feels like I might have strained all the muscles down there - possible as I was moving furniture

(Won't be doing any more of that for a while...)

Woke up properly at 6 with awful pain, thought it'd be going away by now but it's very crampy and painful. Thing is it is a bit like 2 wks ago, ie. nothing really timeable, but constant nasty pain that won't go away and is really upsetting iykwim?

Doula is coming at 10 for some exercises/breathing practise, so will be nice to have her around...but how do you tell if things are really happening? I suppose I could get the midwife to come out but am scared of her just saying 'see how it goes', seems a bit pointless really.

I don't really want to be having baby on the floor suddenly with no help though!

Am 39+5 btw

you;ve not let anyone down ! don;t be silly >

things are moving, they really are

did she examine you? are you dilating?

have faith, my dear, that your body is doing something with all these twinges

now, go and eat some cake, you'll need the energy !

beckmo · 07/06/2007 16:35

Hello Flight attendant!I was wondering if you had your bambino yet...looks like things are happening and I hope this time it is.Your midwife sounds excellent so you are in good hands.

I'm due tommorow. Absolutley nil signs of the baby appearing though.

Good luck x

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2007 16:41

FlightAttendant - I had this for WEEKS - I know how you feel! It's bloody infuriating and upsetting and you start to wonder if you will bother to call the midwife until you see the head!

It's GREAT that the baby is moving down - less pushing for you. It's FANTASTIC that you are able to keep a sense of humour and WONDERFUL that you have a good midwife on call tonight! There is no bad news here. So have so cake as Lulumama says, rest and do the crossword or something to take your mind off it. I weeded the hospital gardens with my hands when I was waiting because I was so bored and couldn't concentrate - I think they were weighing up whether to transfer me to the labour ward or the nuthouse

flightattendant · 07/06/2007 16:53

Thanks, all of you...wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the terrible pain

Think crossword is probably beyond the realms, as is cake...stomach has decided it doesn't really want to be calm and wait, I guess that's a good sign, can't be bad to have some extra space in there!

Beckmo, hope you get some signs too x

Wmmc - brilliant, gardening, hats off to that! I don't think I'd be capable!

Lulu - no, she didn't...I'm glad in a way as the external was bad enough, I mean she was lovely but I did get the feeling I was being handled by someone who prefers cows

I think it would have hurt a LOT!

I'm with you FA I have been having twinges since Tuesday waters broke 5:20am on Wednesday and I'm still not in "Active Labour" My contractions keep coming and going and so are really bad others aren't so bad but it is frustrating isn't it! Chin up I'm sure it will be over for us both soon enough and we will have our bubba's in our arms!

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2007 17:46

FA - oh go on, have a look at your flowerbeds, bet there are a few weeds there - will take your mind off the pain and if you are crawling around it gets the baby further down and that's good.

flightattendant · 07/06/2007 18:07

Hmm.......worst thing is I know the garden could really use it! However a quick go on mumsnet is much more distracting right now

Oh Lyndag, have been following your progress (or similar lack of ) - glad to have a companion at this moment! Hope you manage it but try not to worry as I think induction can be fine IRL. Every birth is different.

Feel so sick now, stomach seems unable to cope with it even if I can...which I'm not doing a great job of actually! Tried to walk down road with DS and couldn't make it, thought I was going to throw up, everything tightened even more...

But maybe that means things are gearing up. Have sent DS off to Grandma's (up the road) as the sight of me groaning and kneeling on all fours near the toilet isn't quite the experience I want him to associate with new brother's arrival!!!

God bless Grandmas.

Night is still young, however! I like that theory about the dark. Comforting somehow.

good, the body needs a good clear out to make way for the baby

remember to replace the fluids you are losing!

FA i'm the same I was thinking of tackling a pile of ironing to keep upright and moving and distracted but being on her is much more interesting

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2007 18:10

Hey Lulu - looks like FA is ready to pop heheheh

Speccy PLEASE!!!!!!! Yes, please!

I have a box of Cadburys eclairs open here ( was saving for doula/midwives but had craving earlier) and I can't eat them! Come on over, they are making me sad, someone has to eat them.

FA, I've been wondering the same thing about how I'll cope once the pain gets really bad (been having painful BHs for, oooh, 2 weeks now, with another 3 weeks to go). Excellent. But my doula said last night that as the pain increases, so do the endorphins, so although you might not know how you're going to cope, your body equips you to do so.

flightattendant · 07/06/2007 18:17

Oh that is good to hear, thankyou Corrie...hmm soothing words. I hope it's true, sorry you've been going through it a bit by the sound of it. How far along are you?

The Mw ho came out earlier said that often if this preliminary stage is long and sore, the actual established bit can be very, very quick...so that'd make yours, Oh, 20 minutes by my reckoning!!!

Good luck!

Lyndag...ironing??? Yup, think you made a good call xx

Mum has Ds and I've got my doula on call, don't want to drag her here yet as she has two littlies and is only 5 mins away, so I'll be ok...thanks speccy.
I can't just sit though, have to be online, it's suddenly a very good distraction, stops me thinking about when I'm going to vomit and that is what I need right now!
I've no idea how I'll know when these are 'real' contractions. I guess a show or some of that SROM would be a clue.

Hey Lyndag, at least you lost your water! That's gotta be a good sign. Hope your body catches up with itself.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2007 18:23

FA - I think I'd rather be alone in early labour myself tbh. Too many folks saying 'anything yet' and you get tired thumping them all

flightattendant · 07/06/2007 18:25

kwym, Wmmc

Something to do with that animal thing of finding a safe place. I can't stand people around when I'm ill, either - feels like you have to spare them anything gory etc.

and wee silently so nobody hears you!!

Let alone anything else...

CorrieDale · 07/06/2007 18:27

I'm 37 + 2, and counting! It doesn't help that my bump is absolutely massive and the baby has dropped considerably over the last week or so - every bad contraction I get in public leads to funny looks as people wonder if I'm going to go into labour there and then in true ER/Holby City fashion. If only...

xxkiexx · 07/06/2007 18:28

Aww FA a home birth, I had a home birth with ds and it seems to be a no NO around here as everytime i went ot antinatel they all refurd to me as home birth!! But i was alot more relaxed and it went smoother than it did in the hospital! I'll definatly be doing it this time around!!! I hope everythings going well and your new son will be bursting our eardrums with his wails soon

good luck

xxxxxxx

ps sorry if im jibbering i have a splitting headache

flightattendant · 07/06/2007 18:30

ah xxkiexx! Sorry about your poor head. Thanks for the encouraging homebirth thoughts.
I always had a very negative/cynical reaction from every midwife I saw, until this one today who actually seemd Ok with it! I expect I'll just miss her on the rota though at this rate...typical!

Hope you feel better soon x

Corrie, kwym, people get very jittery don't they? He he. such is the Power Of The Bump.

xxkiexx · 07/06/2007 18:33

Yeah midwives dont seem to approve much...i wonder why? With both dd's i had an epidural but with ds I sucked gas and air, (although that wasnt so much for the pain.....I just really like it ) And it was great that night lying in my own bed with my new son next to me and then getting in my bath and going to my toilet etc, I was just alot happier!! xxxx

lulumama · 07/06/2007 18:35

is your doula coming or are you saving her for the main event?
