Contractions - what do they feel like?

So I had my show on Saturday and my waters broke this morning at 5:20am but no contractions....

I have had a bad back since yesterday about 6pm and my tummy tightens but I don't feel any pain or even mild discomfort in fact unless I touch my tummy I'm not aware it is tight iykwim? I'm still feeling plenty of movement with the baby but not sure if the back ache and tummy tightening are contractions if I'm not really feeling them? When walking around I get like a slight cramp feeling but thats it

Can anyone confirm if the backache and tummy tightening are contractions? I've felt no braxton hicks only noticed that my tummy goes tight sometimes.....but again I don't feel it - its only when I touch it I realise.....

{{{{Big Labour Vibes sweetie }}}}

You can do it!

whomovedmychocolate · 07/06/2007 18:24

I think you are FA should have a space hopper race to see if it helps.

flightattendant · 07/06/2007 18:26

I would fall off spectacularly.

OMG Lyndag, I am avidly watching this conversation. It's so exciting. I'm getting broody, and wistfully remembering my labour with great fondness - which proves it can't be that bad!!!

All my positive vibes and thoughts are with you.

And don't let the 'establishment' bully you into anything you don't want to do!!

Go on girl !!!!!!!!

I have a space hopper in the shed I bought for hubby's 30th birthday but not sure if racing on it is such a good idea

Been watching this thread.
Any baby news yet?!
You must have been admitted anyway for induction.
Good Luck!

3catstoo · 08/06/2007 09:51

You'll know when you've got them believe me! It's not just a tickle!

Mine started straight after waters broke all 3 times.
1st baby came 9 hrs after w/b & 1st contraction.
2nd baby 2 hrs after.
3rd baby 1 hr 24 mins.

we are all different though.

Sorry its taken me so long to respond....

Well Thursday eve I started getting strong pains but in my back not my bump anyway.... about 12:30am Friday I was in tears with pain so we called the hospital and they said we could come in

We arrive and I get my internal exam and find I am only 1cm dialated I feel a complete idiot and embarrassed that my pain threashold is so low .....so I am on gas and air and it is no longer taking the edge of the pain and I am offered Pethadine or Epidural (about 2am).....so I take Pethadine and DH goes home to get some sleep as well.... I am able to rest between contractions but not sleep then about 5am I have another shot of Pethadine.....again only taking the edge of the pain ....

About 11am DH comes back to the hospital (he calls the ward about 9am but I tell them not to get him to come in yet as still only 3cm dialated) by this time I'm not allowed Pethadine anymore so I have he epidural....which only works in one side of the body roll eyes anyway they move the epidural around and by 10pm I am only 6cm dialated.....

Since having the epidural.... I am on the hormone drip but this causes the bubba to get distressed (I had a two cord vessel so potential for problems as well) so I am on and off the drip all day....

Anyway 2 shifts of midwifes later (and constantly getting the epidural topped up) I am told the baby is back to back (thats why i could feel the pain in back not around the bump).....

Anyway as the bubba is getting distressed again.......they external exam and I am 10cm dialated....after 40mins of pushing no joy... they decide to prep me for ventouse (sp) if that fails they are going to try forceps if that fails then c-section...but as the epidural isn't working properly I am given a spinal block, but have to sign the forms for general anethestic (just in case)........anyway they decide to do the attempts in theatre so they don't have to move me quickly so the ventouse failed.....so before they can do the forceps attempt they have to cut me luckly spinal block I can't feel a thing

If your still awake by now then my bubba a ikkle girl was born at 00:07 (bond baby) on Sat (9/6) weighing in at 6lb 6oz she is adorable...and now the stitches have gone and I'm not in pain anymore she is well worth it obviously I am biased

and to be honest once I got to the hospital I felt more relaxed about the whole birth thing.....it was the waiting from the show/waters breaking that was the worst...

Sorry for such a long bost I wish every mum to be and mum the very best

Sorry I forgot that I also had a retained placenta,..... so after I had her they had to have a feel around to ensure that was all out

Congratulations! Worth it all in the end, isn't it?

Hope you're all having a lovely time getting to know each other.

Lyndag · 29/06/2007 22:48

Now it is worth it and tbh my biggest fear was childbirth and everyone says its not as bad as you think... in someways it is the fear that makes it worse and the unknown....and the end result is worth it... at the end of the birth (i still couldn't see beyond the birth till the birth) but she is worth it now
