Baby is stuck midwives not doing anything

Just got back from being sent home yet again from labour ward after contractions have stopped again. Im 39 weeks on Friday. Been having on and off contractions since the weekend. This is baby number 3. The baby is laying back to back and it’s head is basically stuck in my pelvis so every time contractions start they can’t get established because baby isn’t pressing on the cervix enough. Baby was measuring 41plus 6 days last week in length and bump is 37 weeks. I think it’s reached its limit because so stretched and tight and I’m only small.
I’m so so worried the response from midwives is that they can’t do anything because I’m not overdue but they acknowledge body is trying to go into labour. To me there are so many warning signs it’s like just waiting for something to go wrong but to them even if the baby doesn’t make it they aren’t really bothered it will just be a statistic. I don’t know what to do the midwives I’ve seen are pleasant but quite young and I find them patronising like saying oh I know it’s frustrating for you when I get upset!! I’m so bloody worried about how the hell this baby is going to come out and be ok!! My community midwife is crap and has never once answered or even returned a phone call, she does a clinic for half a day a week so basically booked up over a month in advance.

The nice guidelines state women should be offered induction between 41 and 42 weeks. No mention of 39. Perhaps you're not in the UK where they calculate things differently? Like France. I think 39 weeks there is 41 weeks here. clutching at straws though Grin

My experience of working on a labour ward is you most definitely cant just rock up and expect induction. They are just too busy, and without any clinical need would be at the very back of the queue. Go up and get checked out by all means, have they been doing ctgs on baby? I would want a ctg to check on baby.

If you feel something isn’t right please push them to take it more seriously. However in my experience this is very common for third babies and I was told the same thing by many midwives from 36weeks when I started having on and off contractions like you. I’d have them during the day nearly every day but they would ease in the evening. Try the spinning babies site if you think baby isn’t in right, as soon as they are right it will probabaly happen quiet quickly. I know how frustrating the last few weeks are but it will soon be over. Best of luck.

Ive got an appointment at the assessment centre for 12:30 today, they were great and said they would probably do a sweep and bring a bag in case it gets things moving in the right direction. Not getting hopes up too much but at least will be able to listen in and hear baby if nothing else.

Fingers crossed. It took induction at 40+15 (and eventual forceps) to shift my back to back baby, but he was absolutely fine. Really hope stuff gets moving a bit quicker for you!

I could've written this myself with my third baby but it carried on until I was over a week overdue.
In the end my community midwife sent me up to the hospital to be induced but when I got there, I was refused because the midwife I saw wanted me to have a 'lovely natural with no intervention'. He was still back to back when he came out and there was no pain relief because I wasn't seen by anyone until the pushing stage.
I would really, really have put my foot down if I could go back in time but I was far too exhausted to argue so I sympathise Thanks

Been on the monitors and all looks good, have a urine infection so that could explain a lot of the dull pain I’ve been having... also think baby has moved position and now head in right direction... feeling much better x

Best Wishes to you and your baby

Verbena87 · 23/08/2018 18:27

Great that baby’s moved, and is doing ok, and great that they’ve found your UTI so you can get that sorted too.

SiolGhoraidh · 24/08/2018 06:05

I'm glad you're feeling more comfortable. Pain without purpose really saps your confidence. Hopefully baby will get on with it now they've moved into the right position

In being induced on Saturday (due date) had some extra scans, all looks fine with baby. Seen some lovely midwives who all seem more senior/ experienced. Baby is now on right position so hopefully labour shouldn’t be too bad!
