Hi all,

I have planned to have a homebirth or at least natural but everyday is becoming less and less likely as I am 12 days over my due date. I have had three attempted sweeps but nobody can reach my cervix it is so far back. I am being pressured into getting an induction but feel if my body isnt ready i fear emergency section.

One strange thing though, this morning I lost my plug, right before I left for hospital to monitor baby and discuss options, but when I was examined was told my cervix is still unreachable (he did spend a long time trying and went right back in there)! How can you lose the plug if cervix hasn't started to ripen? Could it be that it is ripening but just unusually posterior and hasn't come down yet? I asked to wait another day to see if my body will do anything naturally but doctor is certain i will need to be induced at 42weeks.

Anyone else lose their plug with a posterior cervix and go into labour, I am cramping slightly but not painful at all.

Me! So I woke up morning of 40+4 and had midwife appointment. I had a few weird niggles but didn’t think much of it. Got to mdiwives and was small amount of stuff in my knickers. Like red/brown gunge. I didn’t mention it though.

She tried sweep. Couldn’t reach my cervix. Said it was very posterior. Things were nice and soft. But it had moved forward yet. So she couldn’t check any dilation.

Came home. Had mild cramps on and off. Lost more red/brown gunge stuff. An by that night my contractions starts.

Slow labour though. DD wasn’t born until 40+7 as she was back to back and it was 4 looooong days.

But in answer to your questions. Yes you can lose your plug and labour be starting. I was examined at 40+5 evening to be only 1-2cm dilated bit cervix still posterior. An then went back 6 hours later in morning of 40+6 and was 4cm dilated. Cervix posterior. So a lot can change in a few hours.

Good luck!
