Hi all,
I'm looking to do some training to become a doula but I'm not sure which course to do.. Can anyone recommend to me one they have done, I am able to attend workshops over 2 weekends or 3 day courses but I'm confused as to which one to go for ..

Would be grateful for any advice Gin

TLD.... stop with the excuses. Book the NB course. Honestly... you're ideally suited for work. I've had several enquiries from your area.

So............. have you signed up yet????

twolittleducks · 05/06/2007 21:39

I have my application form all ready to go

Thanks for all the advice and support. Fingers crossed there is a little space left for me on this months course

Fantastic!!!!!!!! Really proud of you!

When you're done and you join DUK (DoulaUK) you'll spot me easily. Make sure to say hi!

Twolittleducks,

Nurturing birth was a great course, but a locl doula to me completed the paramana course, and loved it.

Not to sure on the British Doulas UK courses.

HTH

I'm going on the Paramana course in July twolittleducks - don't know whether that's an incentive or puts you off

twolittleducks · 11/06/2007 15:10

Was bit dissapointed not to get on NB course as so many have recommended it, but heard from others paramana course meant to be good!!

I just spoke to Liliana and she said there were still spaces so I might see you there! I've got a friend who did it recently and she said it was fab.

twolittleducks · 11/06/2007 15:20

Daisymoo- have you got those two books yet??? That they recommend

OP posts:
jofeb04 · 11/06/2007 16:03

If you need any book, let me know the name (can lend it to you to see if you want to buy it etc)

twolittleducks · 11/06/2007 16:13

jofeb- we have been recommended to read these books
The Farmer and the Obstetrician' and 'The Scientification of Love' both by Michel Odent

Have these books at all?? I sort of was thinking is it simply a case of buy our books for more money or they any good to actually read.. Amazon reviews are quite positive but it is another 20 quids worth

OP posts:
DaisyMOO · 11/06/2007 16:39

I've got the Scientification of Love which I had already and I thought it was a bit dull I haven't really decided whether or not to buy the other one.

twolittleducks · 11/06/2007 17:40

dont not want to get the book, but it is 20 quid and cant help but think maybe its just an excuse to buy the guys book??? I will probably try library or getting second hand one!!!

OP posts:
lulumama · 11/06/2007 20:58

you should be able to get it out of the library....good luck !

pupuce · 12/06/2007 18:26

I suspect Paramana is all booked up too.
British doulas is an agency. Their course is not recognised with Doula UK.

pupuce · 12/06/2007 18:31

The Odent books are what is actually covered in the Paramana course... so in a way if you read them beforehand you will have read a lot of what is covered on the course. I thnk his book Birth Reborn might be more interesting.
Also Paramana courses are groups of 30... quite different size wise (much bigger). More lecture like to all the other courses I know IYKWIM.

But Odent is quite a guru so it's always great to hear him.

twolittleducks · 12/06/2007 21:55

pupuce did you do Paramana course???

You could also consider studying by distance learning, take as much or as little time as you like and no need to attend workshops. e-mail me at [email protected]. I am a trainer for them. There is also a free downloadable guide to becoming a doula on our website www.childbirthinternational.com as well as a chart comparing different training progs. Good luck - being a doula is wonderful, hard work, challenging, and a great career.

yogimum · 12/06/2007 22:14

I met a doula the other day and she did a course in Bristol I think, but she said it was over 7 months or so not just a weekend like some courses. Does anyone know which one it is?

lulumama · 12/06/2007 22:16

think that might be Demestia

yogimum · 12/06/2007 22:18

ok thanks.

twolittleducks · 12/06/2007 22:20
