I have been staying at my mums whilst our house has been refurbished.
Therefore my car journey to my hospital will be about one hour when I go into labour. Is this unreasonable?

My journey was 25/30 minutes on country roads I had contractions every 5 minutes which were very intense so it was quite uncomfortable. You could always ring an ambulance they can blue light you if they have to.

An hour is quite a long time to drive especially as you may be super uncomfortable in labour sitting in a car. Also you could get all the way there to be sent back home again.
Personally I wouldn't be too comfortable with more than a half hour car ride.
However I know of lots of people who've had to travel for an hour or more and it's been just fine. I think the main thing is communication with the hospital about your stage of labour, travel time and being prepared that you could have to wait around the be admitted or go home and come back.

Where I come from, the nearest big hospital with obstetricians is 2.5 hours drive away. There is a closer hospital but is a midwife only unit and so all first time mums and thise with high risk births have to head south.

10 minutes walk. It would have taken longer to drive or get a taxi.

2.5/3 hours to big hospital for no 1. 1.25 hours to more local midwife led unit for no 1.
