Labour after previous shoulder dystocia (baby got stuck)

Have any mums out there gone on to have a straightforward natural delivery after shoulder dystocia? My son was born at 42 weeks and got stuck on his way out, his body was born 6 mins after his head and he was oxygen deprived when born. He was immediately resuscitated (I will forever be grateful to the paediatrician who was waiting in theatre) and he is fine now at 2, but it was very traumatic and it could have ended very differently. I am pregnant again and am starting to panic about birth. I have done some reading and have seen that chances of shoulder dystocia are 1% generally but 10% if it's happened before. That seems high to me...

Anyone else had children after shoulder dystocia? How was the birth?

My DS was born after a severe shoulder dystocia. Luckily wasn't oxygen deprived. I am having an ELCS for baby number two next month on medical recommendation. No way am I risking that again.

@munchcrunchbunch , thanks for your reply and sorry it happened with your DS as well. All the best for the arrival of your new bub!

I too had an ELCS after shoulder dystocia, too scary to go through again.

Not me - but my mum. I was born around 43 weeks. My shoulder got stuck and my mum was pushing for hours until they got the Neville Barnes forceps out.

I was a bit battered and had a week in NICU afterwards (I'd got distressed and meconium on my lungs).

18 month later my mum had a problem free vaginal birth with my sister (though they were prepped to take her to theatre for a C-section of needed). 15 months later my brother was born. He was induced at 38 weeks because he'd kicked his waters out. Again, straight forward vaginal birth.

We're all in our early 30s.

Friends just had her second following shoulder dystocia with her first. She ended up choosing a section after her first was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a result of the dystocia. I fully understood her decision and would have made the same one!

@TokyoSushi @Sandstormbrewing - I completely understand ELCS after shoulder dystocia, that is what I am leaning towards, I am petrified this baby might die if she gets stuck : S My OB recommended counselling then said to wait and see (based on babies size and position) closer to the time, which is why I was interested to know if someone else had a positive delivery after shoulder dystocia.

@Bibijayne - thank you for sharing this!! Your mum is a hero.
