Has anyone had a c-section before?

Hi

I am due 28th of Jan with twins. I haven’t had my consultant appointment yet but I am starting to think ahead and if I want to have a natural birth vs c-section. I know sometimes you can’t choose.

OH bloody hell I hit post too soon!!!

I know you can’t choose sometimes but I am just wondering what everyone else’s experiences were? And if it wasn’t worth it? I am absolutely petrified of having a natural birth with twins. If I was only having one I wouldn’t be as worried but I’m really worried about the fact it is twice the trauma or twice the complications! This is my first pregnancy too so i don’t really know much about the facts etc

@HannahB1993 Very rare to need a C section when someone else gives birth to them. Perhaps some of our adopters with birth kids can come along and help, but it might be easier to get this post moved.

@donquixotedelamancha I literally I have no idea what you just said 😂 please elaborate?

This was showing in adoptions earlier. I checked a couple of times. I assumed you'd assumed for it to be moved.

I had a c section with my twins, and it was great. A friend delivered hers, and that was fine too. The hospital / professionals will monitor you closely and decide with you what is best and safest. Please don't worry, it'll be fine xxx

I've had 2 c-sections , first one after failed induction and no dilation and second was planned. I did actually go into labour but 15 hrs of contractions and still only dilated 1cm so would have ended up as emergency c-section anyway.

I too was worried about natural birthing as people I know in the medical profession feel a c-section is safer. If I'd been having twins then I think I would have definitely asked for one , there is a lot of pressure on women from midwives to have a natural birth but it's ultimately up to you. It's a difficult one , with my second child I had a lot of judgmental comments from people -even a midwife said it's not giving birth! But it absolutely is -you are birthing a child -2 in your case , however they enter the world!

The recovery for me was ok , I was fairly active and didn't take many pain killers -but everyone is different -you must be very careful lifting and moving around. It's such a minefield coz literally anything could happen , section or natural. I've heard horror stories from both . For me personally choosing a section with my second meant I was in control and knew what was going to happen . My birth plan first time around was water birth and whale music 😅 so I was very disappointed it went the complete opposite way. But ultimately my children were brought into this world quickly and safely and I would elect again.

Do some research and speak to your consultants, there is lots of information out there . Knowledge is power so get all the facts and info you need and see how you feel xxx

I had an EMCS and it was fine. Not what I wanted but it did the job! Recovery took a little time and plenty of pain killers but I was 'elderly' so can't expect to just bounce back the way you might if you are younger.

You've got a while to think about it so I'd suggest not finalising anything till you've done some more research, spoken to the consultant, seen the delivery suite etch. You could also try contacting TAMBA if they are still around, they could probably give you lots of information. Exciting times! Congratulations.

I had an emergency c section on my first born near 28 yrs ago and went on to have another 5 natural births with no problems. I would never have chosen to have a c s as it is a major surgery. I also due to a back op scar was unable to have an epidural so had to have a general. I also had to have a line put in on all my deliveries, just in case they had to knock me out quicker. Mine is a lot different to you as mine was an emergency so if you need one then you need one, it's all about what's safest for you and baby. I know it's a nerve racking time but you will be fine just relax and listen to what your body tells you. Thanks

I had an emergency c-section 3 weeks ago as my DD was breech though I went into labour naturally. The procedure itself was fine - surprisingly quick and I almost felt that I'd had the easy way out because it was relatively pain-free compared to the few hours of contractions I'd had beforehand!

It has been quite sore afterwards and I've struggled to slow down at home as I'm used to being very active normally. The pain afterwards is manageable with painkillers but I'd really recommend taking a few weeks to let yourself heal. The scar isn't as bad as I had thought it would be.

A c-section wasn't in my birth plan but in the end the choice was taken out of my hands and I found I didn't mind as long as DD was delivered safely.

And congratulations to your little blessings really you will be fine, just do what is safest for you all. Your doctor has seen it all before just enjoy the time you have now.

My friend who recently had twins had the first twin naturally and then once born because of all the extra space the 2nd baby turned and went breach, they couldn't get baby to stay in a head down position so decided to do a CS for the 2nd twin. Turns out he had a very short umbilical cord and it kept pulling him back up.
If it was me I would chose a CS because I wouldn't want the risk of going through both types of labour.

When I had DD I had an EMCS after a 5 day induction failed and she didn't drop in to the right place, I was exhausted from no sleep and ended up in surgery at 230am.
Me personally for my next I will have a planned CS, I need to feel in control next time and not give birth in such a horrible exhausted state.

Good luck whatever you decide to do. X

Had a C-section 2 weeks ago after a failed induction, and while I was initially disappointed I wasn't going to have the 'Real Birth' experience - I was soon relieved as the whole thing wasn't nearly as traumatic as I expected surgery while awake to be. We had a fab team delivering our baby and I imagine that makes all the difference.

Recovery wise, yeah it hurts - not as much as I expected, so it's hard to remember sometimes I need to take it easy to let myself heal properly!

2 emergency sections here from absolute opposite ends of the spectrum. One at full dilation after a long labour with every alarm in the place going off and about 25 people rushing around and one very relaxed amazing experience. I agree with LeeRoar that the staff make a huge difference. With my 2nd, I had actually planned to have a general anesthetic because of my experiences the first time around and when I went into labour early, it was the staff on duty who convinced me and made me feel comfortable enough for a spinal. They made dd's birth wonderful and we will always be massively grateful.

My recovery both times has been very easy, especially given my "advanced" maternal age. I was 40 when dd was born and didn't need any pain relief after the spinal/was pushing the pram on the 3 mile round trip to pick ds up from preschool within a fortnight. However I will admit I think I'm on the extreme end of recoveries.

I know two women who had twins last year. One had an easy vaginal delivery with both (they were her 2nd and 3rd children), the other delivered one vaginally and had a section for the 2nd. I've no idea how common that is but having laboured all the way to full dilation myself, pushed, had someone try and pull ds out with forceps and then had a section, that's something I would really try and avoid.

If you do have a section, my advice would be to try and get mobile as quickly as possible.

Had a planned cesarean for DS1. It was really great, recovery was easy.

I’m currently pregnant with twins due beginning of Jan and will be having another cesarean.
