What to say to consultant about wanting a VBAC

I had DD by CS at 41 weeks last year as she was an undiagnosed footling breech.

Next one is due when she is 20 months and I have been told I will be banned from birthing centre (so no pool) and continually monitored once I am in labour, thereby pretty much buggering up my chances of a VBAC.

I know continual monitoring is not necessary but does anyone have any concrete evidence or any idea what I can say when I go to see consultant next Tuesday? I will be on my own with DD as DH can't get time off so won't have backup either!

Where are you Chirpy? I might know a VBACer who would be willing to give added support?

Chirpygirl · 30/05/2007 12:52

I'm in South Wales, but it takes me awhile to feel comfortable with people I don't know so thanks and much appreciated for the offer TBH I would rather do it myself IYSWIM.

Chirpy, no offence taken! But I shall let you know about South Wales Birth Support just in case you need to contact someone to get any local info. Catrin is now doing her midwifery training but I'm sure that if you made contact needing advice she would be only to happy to help or else put you in contact with someone who could. Most Doulas are happy to talk to you on the phone even if you don't want the full service. It's what being a Doula's about. And Catrin is a lovely person!

Thanks Klaw!

Chirpy, I'm in South Wales, and there is a doula in Cardiff called Vicky ... she'll be looking after me too - and I'm a VBAC - she was recommended to me by Catrin!

Oh, and as she's a trainee, she charges a maximum of £150.

When are you due? I'm due early October ...

ejt1764 · 30/05/2007 19:38

oh, and if you are by any chance at UHW / Llandough, if you get yourself swapped to Peter Lindsay - he's a really pro-vbac consultant ...

lulumama · 30/05/2007 23:10

i know vicky...she is amaaaaazing...a fantastic doula

Chirpygirl · 30/05/2007 23:11

Damn you ejt, I am due 6th October! You best not have nicked the last doula

I am too far from Cardiff for it to be feasible though, thanks anyways!

I'm due the 2nd ... so yes, I have nicked the last doula ...

Mind you, I suggest that you contact her anyway, to see if she knows of anybody nearer to you.

let me know how you get on : eirian dot thomas at gmail dot com (desperate attempt to stop spammers!)

lulumama - thanks for the seconding of Catrin's recommendation!
