Hi everyone...

I am going to the hospital this morning to be induced. Many different thoughts and fears and starting to go through my head and I am scared. I'm getting induced to RFM. Can I please hear some positive stories to keep me going? I'm planning on getting an epidural. The doctor said they will be using the pessary. Apart from that I don't really understand what is going to happen and feel a bit out of controlBlushSad

I totally understand how your feeling! I was induced on a Monday morning and had my DD on the Wednesday early morning, I ended up having my waters broken and the drip on Tuesday evening, however I wasn't in pain/full blown labour up until after that! I also had an epidural which was amazing, from the point of established labour and giving birth it was under 2 hours.. I had heard many horrible stories about being induced, please don't worry and try to keep calm and you'll be fine!! Good luck and congratulations Smile

Your story will be different to everyone's so don't worry
Essentially you'll have a pessary and wait, possibly another pessary and wait then a drip to help you go into labour. Take books - there's a lot of waiting - good luck and enjoy your new baby when he or she arrives

Get the epidural as soon as your waters break!!

I had it within minutes of them breaking my waters.

I started on Saturday afternoon and had my DS at 8pm Monday evening (forceps delivery).

Good luck for today, I have no real advice but I am booked in this afternoon to be induced. I’ll be thinking about you and let us know how you get on

I had an induction with drip (ouch) and epidural. At the end of it I had a healthy baby. It wasn't a great experience but it got the job done.

Thank you everyone. I'm in the hospital now and just waiting for the student midwife and other midwife to come and examine me and put the pessary in. I'm extremely annoyed with student midwife (she's Middle Aged and has had children herself she said) due to how much she is determined I shouldn't jump straight for the epidural and that I should try pethadine first. I know for a fact I want an epidural and that I don't want pethadine as I don't want to feel 'high' and have bad reactions to codeine which is in same drug group as pethadine. I feel nervous now to still say I just want epidural.. Sad

If you know what you want stick with it, but you don't need to have it before anything happens. I was offered the epidural when they came to put the drip in, (had it about an hour later as I wanted to try without first and then the anesthesiologist was busy). But stick to your guns if your sure it's what you want, they might be cautious because it can slow down Labour sometimes and you'll find it more difficult to move around. My advice would be move around and stay upright as much as possible before you go straight for the epidural.

Tell the senior staff you don't consent to being cared for by the student midwife if she won't respect your wishes and your autonomy. She sounds horrendous.
