Not used washable ones but I can't imagine that would be my priority with a newborn. Of those I used I would recommend the boots ones. Often on 3 for 2. Get more than you would ever imagine you'd need.

Honestly in the first few days after birth I used Tena pants. I’ll be doing the same again. Comfy and no fear of leaks.

I got through 6 packs of the boots ones before moving on to Always in week 2 or 3.

I got some throw away paper undies and maternity pads from Asda because I rate their normal san pro so thought I'd be ok with those.

I was, they were fine, the paper knickers were especially good!

Boots - wore them 2 at a time.

I bought tena but couldn't bring myself to use them. With a newborn I couldn't imagine having the extra faff and washing or reusable pads (and I use cloth nappies for my baby so I'm not squeamish about that sort of thing!)

I used massive Tena pads which are supposed to be for bladder leakage but they did the job.

The tena pants were brilliant. No leaks. You will have enough to be thinking about so get two packs of these for the first week.

Another vote for tena pants. Only needed them for a few days then moved onto always nighttime pads. No leaks using either.

Not sure what brand I used but we were so busy we took our laundry to a launderette for the first 6 weeks. So I wouldn't recommend washable pads!

The Kotex night time pads are absolutely fab, they aren't maternity but are all cotton which is fab if have stitches and cost like £1 from Superdrug so cheap! I found the cheaper pads were pre cotton and so much kinder and better post birth compared to marked up specific maternity pads!

I have used all kinds - gave birth a week ago - and without a doubt for the early few days with the heaviest bleeding, the Lil Lets Maternity Maxi Pads or whatever they are called are the best. They have wings which I found was essential to catch all the bleeding, they're super absorbent and thick, they're massive so no leakages, and they're really soft all the way around including wings so they didn't cause me any discomfort despite me having an episiotomy. I have also tried the Superdrug ones, the Tesco ones and the Tesco ultra-slim ones, and the Lil Lets are the best especially for the first few days when the bleeding is at its heaviest. I got them from Asda but after I started running out they weren't in stock anywhere and couldn't find any more so had to switch to wearing a winged sanitary towel under a thick Tesco or Superdrug one which wasn't ideal as the edges weren't as soft and initially was uncomfortable against my stitches.

Oh I second the disposable undies from Asda, I wore a pack of them first too before going back to my normal undies.
