Induction at 37 weeks

I’m due to be induced tomorrow (37+2)

I’m an IVF pregnancy and baby is measuring smaller than they would expect so they have advised an induction.

Iv been feeling fine up until today and now I’m terrified.

I have endometriosis so generally find all things womb related painful and sensitive.

Is the induction less likely to be straightforward as the baby is technically still early.

I feel like my body is nowhere near ready to have a baby- my bump hasn’t dropped at all and had no symptoms to suggest he’s on his way.

I’m just worried that maybe if he isn’t ready yet this induction is going to be hell.

Does anyone have any similar experiences they can share?

Thank you xxx

I’m due for an induction for ds2 at 38 weeks. I’m currently saying that if my cervix isn’t favourable (bishops score) then I won’t consent and we’ll have to discuss a c section. I haven’t had an induction before and share the same worries as you, just think a c section is favourable to an induction when your body is nowhere near ready.

I was induced at 38 weeks due to DD measuring small.

There's lots of horror stories out there but I had a great birth. Baby hadn't dropped, no signs of labour but I was already 1cm dilated so I didn't need any pessaries. I went to delivery suite at 07:30, waters were broken, started on the drip at 11:00 and DD was born at 19:12 with just G&A.

Obviously every birth is different but I just wanted to let you know that not all inductions are awful! Best of luck for tomorrow! I'm sure you'll be fine no matter what happens.

Will you report back please? Be really nice to hear your experiences

Good luck my friends in the same position but having her DS next week! Also interested to hear the weight as she’s not too convinced on the accuracy of the scans saying he’s going to be tiny!
I personally think @levithecat is making a good call, I won’t go into detail of my experiance but have advised my friend to do exactly that!
Friends of mine have had lovely inductions so they’re not all bad. My sister also has endometriosis and said labour was nowhere near as bad as she thought, said that she was used to the pain from it and it was pretty similar!

I had an induction at 37 weeks & had pessary at 9pm, contractions kicked off at 2am.
Sent up to delivery at 9am & waters broke after 1pm & baby out at 2pm.

I was already 1cm & soft cervix but I do have fast labour’s as proved by a natural second one.

I’m going to be honest it hurt more & was more intense especially contraction wise so if you want pain relief, demand it!
Have someone advocating for you, if you want to get off your back, say you are, if you want to walk around, say you are.

Good luck & hope it goes well.

Good luck I was induced last week at 37+5 I had the 24 hour pessary, only got me to 1cm and then had the 6 hour pessary, got me to 2cm this was 48 hours later, they then managed to break my waters and hooked me up to the hormone, I had epidural so couldn't feel anything, however my body didn't dilate to beyond 5cm so I had a emergency c section 24 hours later, the whole process took 75 hours! However it wasn't as bad as it sounds and I was actually pleased to have the section as that's what I wanted in the first place

I was induced at 36 weeks. Pessary at midday, that got me dilated 1cm then drip from 7pm.

The drip wasn't properly explained to me so I refused the epidural. I soon found out that was a mistake. They wait until your having really strong frequent contractions, then leave you for like 4 hours to dilate. I soon asked for it to be turned off and be given and epidural. Other than that it was fine. The epidural took away the pain, midwife told me when to push, baby was born just after midnight.

My advice would be if your having the drip take the epidural.

Iv been to hospital this morning. They have postponed induction until Thursday as they are too busy.
They did examine me though and gave me a stretch and sweep- I was at 1cm dilated and midwife stretched me to 1-2cm.
Is that good for this stage or should it already be dilated more than that?

Thanks all

Sounds good! They just need you to be dilated enough to fit the hook in that breaks your waters. It's like a big crotchet hook!

It's a shame that your induction has been delayed, it always seems to be a massive waiting game as they have to prioritize the women that are already in labour. At least you get to stay at home, I needed monitoring so they had me waiting on a ward until there was space on the delivery suite, I was going insane with boredom!

Zcarter · 26/06/2018 20:39

Awwww I just come on to see how your doing. They started me at 12 and still nothing 😩😩😩

Zcarter · 27/06/2018 03:50

Also bring ear plugs with you I am on a ward and between the snoring and people chatting it’s a nightmare. Also a sleep mask as it’s not proper pitch black. Urghhhh so wanted a decent nights sleep it may be a big day tomorrow 😬😬😬

Hi Blackberry

I'm due to be induced tomorrow too at 37+5. Second time around for me. 2 cms at sweep yesterday, so another ARM for me too.

First one was fine. Six hours from breaking waters to baby. Didn't need the drip. Hoping to halve that with this one!

The waiting around is a bore. I was in for a full week waiting on the ward last time. Wishing you luck for tomorrow.
