Hi NikKie,I suppose it could be.From memory of my 2 the actual contractions were like waves of pain across my abdomen and back, that were too painful to even speak in between.

It could be the start of labour though.Have you had a "show?" when the mucus plug comes away?

It is POSSIBLE you could be starting.I had my first at 38 weeks.

Have you someone there with you and is the pain happening regularly?

early labour pains for me were more crampy.

I used to get those pains too - it seemed like babies head was low down/engaged and they were trying to turn their heads - hence sharp pains.

morning!!
well i'm having a few pains this morn but the sooting pains have now stoped down below.so maybe this could be the start of things!!!i was up and down all night but some how fell asleep, well i have had some loss down below from saturday like slime (soz about tmi) and sunday it had a dot of blood so not sure if its a show!!will everyone keep there fingers crossed that this could be the start?

Nikie1, it is the start for sure but it may not really kick in for days or even another two weeks or more. Sorry!

Baby is settling down and putting pressure on nerves etc which causes the shooting pains, this is normal, sounds like your mucus plug is coming away a bit which, again, is normal.

Best advice is not to dwell too much on these early labour signals, but to keep active, eat and drink well, make sure you go to the toilet also, walking is good, swimming will give you immense relief, get as much rest in between as you can and generally be prepared for a bit of hard work!

Plan something nice for every day, massage from dh, lunch with a friend, manicure, pedicure, gentle walk in the park on nice days, etc, whatever you find pleasurable anyway! Then when you suddenly find you have to cancel these plans cos labour acutally is happening you'll be delighted!

Hi there, I am 41 weeks +1 and am in exactly the same position. Was told on Saturday that I was 1cm dilated and had a sweep thingy but since then all I have had is a few period pain types and then they go off again. Feeling a little frustrated now I have to say.
Keep your chin up! Could be another 3 weeks :-)

Klaw · 23/05/2007 11:23

Please be patient and try to rest as much as you can whilst also keeping fairly active, Baby is trying to manouevre round and this can take some time, it may help baby if you make sure that you sleep/rest on your left side, do not recline back but flop forward over a birth ball or sit on a chair backwards resting over the back, do cat stretches on all fours, go up and down stairs sideways. Can you feel where baby's limbs are kicking you? Will help to determine which way baby is lying....

Hi Nikie,

When you say you're always on the toilet, are you actually doing anything? if not, could you try to ignore it and stay resting, even if you can sleep? Make sure you lie on your left side....

How are you today?

nikie1 · 25/05/2007 15:18

Nikie1, I am a carrier of GBS too and went in for IVABs for my VBAC, however having done more research since I realise that if you don't have other indicators during the pg it may be advisable to consider seriously if there is a need for prophylactic ABs. But this is a big decision as none of us wants to risk our babies.

Have you done your own research? Have you been tested positive in this pg? had it in your urine?

Constantly going to the toilet will be because of baby pressing on bladder, I'm afraid! Unless there's a slow leak in your water bag....

You'd like to have your baby on your birthday? What a fantastic birthday present!

Rest when you can and stay strong!

nikie1 · 25/05/2007 19:12

i have had probs with my kidneys most of the pregnancy, so i've been in and out of hospital, yes i tested pos in this pregnancy funny enough i didnt suffer it in my last pregnancys so it come at a shock when i was told.
i worry terrible because i have quick births, what if i dont get there in time for the antibiotics to work!!!

im going for a walk now to see if i can get things moving!

Well, if you have fast labours don't worry about not getting the ABs, many women give birth without even knowing they carry GBS. Your baby will be watched closely and the biggest sign is apparently the baby grunting, trust your instinct.

If you don't have prolonged rupture of membranes, premature labour and maternal fever then the risks are lesser.

See this and links.

Stay strong
