Raspberry Leaf Tea

Read an article in "I'm Pregnant" about Raspberry leaf tea helping with labour. It states you can start drinking it from 30 weeks but when I looked it up on the internet one site said not to try it till 36 weeks.
Has anyone any experience with Raspberry Leaf Tea/Extract. Good/Bad
Also couldn't find any in Tesco this afternoon so got Raspberry and Echinechea. I was looking in the herbal tea section.

i drank it from 37 weeks with both DDs
think you need to go for the gross loose tea i'm afraid for full effectiveness.

i swear it worked
was 3 days overdue with DD1 (m/w who delivered her reckoned she was actually premature as covered in vernix)
was bang on due date with DD2.

amidaiwish · 21/05/2007 08:08

i had one cup a day to 38 weeks
two cups a day 38-39 weeks
and as much as i could drink 39 weeks+

it is easier to drink if you let it get lukewarm, add some honey and just down it.

ooooh, i don't envy you!

i had two short labours and no stitches either time.

sorry, am reading more of thread after i type messages!

Will definitely be giving it a go. Was 2 weeks late with DD and MW say i was in labour 10 hours I'm not sure it was that long but they know best.
Anything is better than that.

Did not work AT. ALL. for me .. From 37 weeks I took the tablets 3 times a day, I think. I was only 2 days overdue but had a 16 hour labour with very strong contractions a few minutes apart for hours but no dilation...ended up being induced and the whole kit and kaboodle don´t think I´ll be trying them again next time!

I'm sure it worked for me. After i had dd i thought it hadn't done anything so wasn't going to try this time round but the April thread may me realise i'd expected it to bring on labour with dd which isn't what it does. I was 10 days overdue with dd and was induced. Process was long and drawn out but my dilation was quick, not sure how quick but only a couple of hours from 2-3 cm to fully dilated.

With ds went overdue, again, was to be induced but sent home as they had no room for me, then went into labour by myself(very happy about that!!) and again my dilation was from 3-4 cm to fully dilated very quickly. At 12.45pm they said i was 3-4cm, then by 2pm I said i need to push, ds was born at 2.26pm.

I personally think it's worth a try. I took the tablets and if i'm every pg again would take them again. As Katy44 said you'll never know what it would've been like without them but it did seem to work for a lot of the April ladies.

Give it a go but don't make my mistake and think it brings on labour just might make it quicker when it does start.

I drank it from 32 weeks with dd2, my braxton hicks were a lot worse but that could have been as she was my 2nd. The major difference was that with my 1st baby i pushed for an hour and a half whilst with my 2nd the pushing part took under 2 minutes. Now this was proberly because i stood up and squated throughout labour rather then lying flat on my back like the first time but ill def.. be taking it if i get pregnant again just in case.

RedFraggle · 22/05/2007 16:49

Don't think it really induces labour - as one of my midwives pointed out "If it actually induced labour successfully then we wouldn't bother with all these expensive drugs!" I thought this was a good point!

I really liked the tea, can't say if it really helped though..

missusbee · 23/05/2007 22:19

I used the teabags from H&B from about 35 weeks with all three of mine. I think I had about 4 cups a day and I am sure it helped - it certainly didn't induce labour, but when the contractions got going, each baby was out pretty quickly - DD (my first) in about 7 hours from start to finish; DS in about 4 hours and DS2 in about 90 minutes at home- DS2 came out after the waters broke in one massive long contraction, my body really did take over - MW said my uterus must have been really efficient, which I am sure was thanks to the raspberry leaf tea. Give it a try, I hope it helps. You do get used to the taste!

beckmo · 24/05/2007 08:31

To be honest...right now if someone told me drinking my own urine sped up labour I'd be willing to give it a go.

Nip · 24/05/2007 08:41

I took this stuff religiously - and it did bugger all ... 6 days long latency labour, induced, and finally CS... perhaps i was just unlucky!

Juicylucytoo · 26/05/2007 12:55

LOL Beckmo, feel exactly the same

I thought the RLT was only to help your uterus relax and get ready for labour. It can help speed it up only if you're body is ready to go into labour anyway??

MonkeyandBabyBoo · 26/05/2007 17:22

I drank RLT from 38 weeks in my second pregnancy and dd came at 41+3 so didn't help baby to come any quicker but I believe it helped in a quick 2nd labour (1st was 49 hours, 2nd 3.5!) and also a quicker physical recovery afterwards.

Try drinking it with a teaspoon of honey in it - it made it more pleasant to drink!
