Question about prune juice after c-section?!?!

In my first pregnancy, I had awful constipation for the first 20 weeks but after subjecting myself to a glass of prune juice every night, things were fine. After 24 weeks I seemed to hardly need it. Fast forward to c-section- I knew 1st poos would be a challenge so I glugged prune juice for the first 2 weeks!! I definitely needed it but wonder whether it is really advisable if breastfeeding? When I had DS, I was eating a satsuma on day 2 and another mum said 'watch out with those- they can upset baby's tummy etc'. God knows what she'd have said if she knew I was on prune juice too! So is it ok or should I try to manage without it?

Did the prune juice affect the baby last time, sa? If not I wouldn't worry! (Citrus is acid, prunes aren't AFAIK)

I used to eat a lot of bran both while ph and after - probably too much at one point, I read later it affects your zinc absorption or something - there's always some reason not do what you want to do.

If you are comfortable with the prune juice stick with it - much better than the alternatives I'd have thought? Good luck

(For ph read pg, lol)

DS did have explosive poo but this carried on beyond me having prune juice and was down to a milk allergy. So I think it was unrelated... Bran makes things worse for me and having had such a miserable time last pg, prune juice was the only natural thing that worked. I can't bear eating figs/ dried apricots etc. lol! The juice is foul enough!

Here in Spain, they give you a black goo mixture of prunes, raisins and i'm not sure what else but I think it is a really good idea. Helped me but didn't have any effect on ds.

That's good to hear lucy. I think I'll just do the same again. It's only for 7-10 days probably. There's enough discomfort after a c-section without having to worry about this too!
