Hello

My first Labour was quick apparently. I was admitted to hospital after waters broke at 3pm at 35 weeks. Thay night I went into labour went to delivery suite at 10pm. Dc born at 3am.

I would really like an epidural next time as I felt off my nut on gas and air. In agony but tripping balls. I supose it tool an edge off.I wasn't able to have any other pain relief as too far gone by time I could be checked.

But if it's fast am I doomed to no pain relief again? I'm feeling quite worried about this even though my pregnancy is early days.

I don't want to feel that much pain again if I can help it.

My first was 1hr 22 minutes, second was 33minutes, so in my experience labour has been quicker second time around but as long as your bag is ready and you have a plan you should be fine :)

My first was 40 minutes and I'm genuinely concerned DC2 will be born in the car. We lived less than five minutes from hospital last time, twenty mins on a good run now. But I have no idea if DC1 was a fluke or if I'm someone who labours quickly. I could have a 36 hour labour this time. My point is, who knows what will happen? Have a plan but try to be flexible.

12 hours is not fast, I think, but it is much better than others. My first labor was 2 hours and my OB was the one who ruptured my amniotic sac. I’m not considering an epidural next time, but I respect your choice. I think it’s better for you to do that. Anyway, good luck on your pregnancy.

Where are you all getting 12 hours from? It was 12 hours from waters breaking, waters can break before labour and she doesn’t say she was in labour at that point. Labour is classed as being from 4cm. If that was around 10pm then labour was 5 hours which is considered quick for a first labour. However preterm labours don’t follow the normal pattern so can be faster.

Thanks catching babies yes.

Another question - if ds was 2.5kg am I going to be in a lot more pain if a I hopefully get to birth a full term bigger infant?

5 hours isn’t that fast, and although second births are often quicker, it doesn’t sound like you won’t get any signs. I had a precipitous labour, I was in the hospital anyway as I had an appointment, but less than 45 minutes after arriving I was holding my baby.
