I was induced in December. First baby, normal text book pregnancy, I was just 12 days overdue (had 3 sweeps done during the week prior to induction but they didn’t do anything!!)

Went in to the maternity ward. Baby Was monitored for about 2 hours (had the strap things over my belly tracing his heart beat) all was fine. They gave me the pessary. No discussion was had so don’t know why this was given over the hormone drip? I was kept in for another hour and then they said I could go home. Booked my to return 24hrs later.

Got home and went to bed (it was 10.30pm!) nothing happening, felt fine.

Woke up at 12.30am - felt ok. Tried to roll over to get comfy in bed and heard my waters break!!! Rolled out of bed and felt it all come gushing out!

Went back to hospital, had to wait to be seen by triage midwife, was in a lot of pain and throwing up, pretty unpleasant.

Finally got seen and she told me I was 10cm dilated!!! No time for any drugs!!

Got in birthing a pool and had gas & air only. Baby born at 7am.

This is probably not normal, but I was induced for high blood pressure.

Admitted at 38 weeks and hung around on the ward being monitored for a week because it was Christmas and very busy in the Labour suite with spontaneous births. Just to give you the heads up that if there are other people in labour already or emergencies, you might be bumped down the queue, especially if you're before term and essentially well.

I didn't have pessaries and was able to go straight to having waters broken. Contractions went from nothing to very intense and continuous in about 4 hours. Baby born six hours exactly after waters breaking. Was a quick labour and very intense. Didn't consciously push, as my body did it all by itself.

Mostly monitored on a bed but able to get up to use the toilet etc while I was able. Mostly I just lay there mooing and hoovering gas and air. Don't start it until you really need it. Make sure they get the cannula in your wrist in the right place or it hurts like buggery. Ask for lactulose if they give you diamorphine and being stitched afterwards was painless, just a sensation like having your bum flossed. Not nearly as bad as I had feared!

I hope it goes really well for you!

Two inductions with syntocinon drip. Epidural offered and accepted both times. Both fast deliveries and pain free due to epidural. Not very mobile due to drip & epi, but I didn't mind this.
Both positive deliveries.

Good luck!

Expect it to take a while. 24 hours with pessary for me, some cramps but not really got me anywhere

Then waters broken which got me going, but not quick enough for their liking so drip.

Gas and air and a shot of diamorphine plus anti-emetics.

Episiotomy as he was getting a bit distressed (cord round neck)

Went in 11 am thurs. Baby 1am saturday. Stayed overnight as he was pretty sleepy so didnt' feed too much on saturday.

Depends on what sort of induction you have and the reason for the induction. I didn’t have the pessary but they did try manual breaking of waters and various sweeps before they had to move to the drip. They tried hard to give me time for things to get moving as I was desperate to use the pool but it wasn’t to be.

With the drip you’ll need constant monitoring and should have someone with you all the time which I wasn’t prepared for (my ante natal classss seemed to prepare you for midwives running in and out). They tried mobile monitoring for me but couldn’t get the trace clear enough so I had to be on my back or have an electrode put in the baby’s head (I chose the former). For me it took a long time - 40 hours from my waters first breaking and around 12 hours on the drip.

I can’t say that I had an easy time and I needed an epidural and then an instrumental delivery. But ultimately induction and the interventions that followed helped me to have a healthy baby.

I was induced due to IUGR due to ogliohydraminous and RFM at 38 weeks.
Told to get to delivery suite at 09:00am.. seen to room about 10:30am Hooked up to monitors and had the stomach straps to get trace of baby's heartbeat. Was examined a while, stretched and was told I was 1-2cm. Given pessary and told to walk & get lunch. Started having period cramps during lunch.. not awful but uncomfortable. Walked as much as possible and got back to the room about 2pm..

Tried to doze a bit, period cramps getting stronger. Family visited about 4pm.. chatted. 5pm midwife comes to do another check.. might need another pessary if they can't break my waters. MW checks.. definite 2cm and she can reach my waters and successfully breaks them.. due to next to no amniotic fluid it was a mere trickle lol

Advised to mobilise.. try pacing the room.. now getting lower back pain and bump feels very low.. pressure between my legs. Don't yet need pain relief but realise there's a pattern to the back pain and I'm having contractions in my back. I'm getting a bit uncomfortable now and feel like I need to pee. Go to the loo and lose my plug. MW comes back in around 8ish with the new MW and wants to do a trace. New trace that shows contractions, HR fine but only 2cm still. Disappointed. MW says to start on syntocin drip so begins the process. Within 15 minutes my contractions kicked me up the arse.. 3 minutes apart lasting over a minute. After an hour I was given G&A, paracetamol and asked for an epidural.. anaesthetist is in surgery!! Argh! I'm in pain now and starting to painic. My contractions now feel horrible.. was given pethedine and that was horrible, felt off my face..
Meanwhile MW notices that baby isn't so chilled during contractions and is starting to get tired. Finally given epidural and felt an ease in the contractions.. I was shattered at this point, it was around midnight and I'd now been in labour for twelve hours.. baby seemed to be managing now and trace has settled so MW happy for me to rest a while.. I got woken around 1:30am and the MW asked to examine me. I'm so tired I haven't the energy to talk.. I think I grunt a yes.. she does and announces.. "you're 10cm, time to push!" All I want want to do is sleep but my partner is encouraging and after much badgering I repent and decide to actively try and get this baby out! I start pushing at 02:08am and amazingly in only 3 pushes Alexandra Imogen is born at 02:13am weighing a dinky 5lb 8oz. I suffered a 2nd degree tear that needed stitching and lost 400ml blood but otherwise recovered well! In hindsight I would have declined the pethedine and asked for the syntocin to be turned down as the speed of the contracting made me panic and I think tired baby out as she had low energy reserve anyway because she was small..

Hi everyone I did get Induced I went in and then got the tablet etc and then ended up having to wait 2 nights 3 days for a labour room! Then I was finally put into labour at night and then had to have an emergency c section in the morning! But I have a happy healthy baby girl now 6 months old Smile

Unfortunately, that's what induction does all too often. That's why it's called the devil's drug.
EMCS is all they seem to do in the majority of cases.
Scarred for life and never be the same again.
