Hello, I'm booked for an elective cs for breech at queen c's and was wondering if anyone had any experience of the Stanley Clayton private wing or of the private rooms in the NHS bit. I can no way afford the whole procedure to be done privately, but I gather that IF a room is available you can do your recovery on Stanely C for a mere £450 a night! This is a hell of a lot of money, but my last birth was pure hell thanks to my time postnatally (I was in a private room for most of it but it was still incredibly noisy, most staff were grumpy and rude etc, there was no equipment. So I'd be prepared to part with the cash if people think it would make a significant difference to the after care. But if it's just a question of nicer food and a bigger telly then I'll happily go for an NHS room (again, assuming I am lucky enough to find one available). Thank you for any suggestions

No idea re the private wing (although it was good enough for Jools Oliver), but as regards the single rooms on the NHS ward, I asked the day after my c.s. and was told there weren't any available. Later that night when I was wandering around the ward I saw a lot of empty rooms. For some reason I concluded that they didn't want people who had had c.s. in single rooms on the NHS ward as it is easier to keep an eye on people in shared rooms. No idea where I got that from as it is all a blur, but perhaps worth checking the policy if you decide to stay on the NHS ward.

Thanks scary, I had a suspicion that might be the policy - will get dh to go hunting for empty rooms and then fight for one!

Hi - I had my baby privately at QC two and a half weeks ago and was on the Stanley Clayton Ward. They were absolutely fantastic - I honestly can't say enough good things about them. I had an elective CS as the baby was breech and their priority is getting you the Mum in the best possible shape before you go home, and the baby calm, feeding and happy. It was an excellent experience - I think it was worth every penny (we paid for it privately despite the breech situation). I had plenty of rest, masses of care from the midwives, and a really calm environment around me all the time. The rooms are fine - you're very clearly in hospital but the main plus is the quality of care from the midwives. Hope that helps....

Oh daisy, thank you that's really helpful! Will definitely go for it, if a room is available now I've heard that. Did you have the whole birth privately or just the aftercare?
