40 + 3 weeks, waters broken. Continual pain, is this labour?

So I'm 40 + 3 weeks pregnant and my waters broke earlier at 12.30pm. I have had continual severe period type pains since 3pm without relief, just gets worse every 5 minutes or so. Is this actual labour? I have to call the hospital once contractions are every 5 minutes but I don't know whether this is it or not!

I would go in. Your waters have broken and you are in pain. You need to be assessed.
Is baby moving ok?

Jessperry · 01/05/2018 17:45

Baby is moving fine and community midwife has listened in and is happy with heart rate etc. Booked me for an induction tomorrow at 11am if I don't get into established labour beforehand, but not sure when to call as I didn't expect this sort of pain. I guess it's not exactly a one sized fits all experience though is it?!

Go in. Get checked with the full equipment. Never risk it. If your guy is telling you it’s wrong, then it’s wrong.insist.

Argh GUT not guy sorry

Sounds like labour to me! Call the triage at the maternity unit.. they will advise. I'd say you need to go in. Sound like things are moving pretty quickly. Can you still talk okay? If you have barring down feeling call an ambulance or get there ASAP. Smile

Still at home, hospital have said to stay put for a while. No longer having continual pain, just strong contractions every 8 or so minutes so it's slowing down 😭 doing lots of walking to try and get it going.

How are you now?

Astrid2 · 02/05/2018 05:21

Hope all goes well for you. My labour started at 3am, and I didn't go in to hospital til 6pm that day. It's a long process and I much preferred being at home for as long as possible. I went in when my contractions were 3.5 minutes apart.

Take some paracetamol, have a bath and try and relax. I watched Friends on Netflix all day 👍🏻

Also try and rest when you can. You've a long slog ahead and don't want to wear yourself out too soon!

Ahh I hope all is moving and going well. You are at hospital today anyway so that's good. At least you have movement x
