lulumama · 14/05/2007 14:06

vaguely got the gist of that duchesse...well done ! bilingual MNing !!

bonne chance summerfruit !

tribpot · 14/05/2007 14:15

Agreed with duchesse - call that sage-femme toute de suite! (Never knew that was what midwife was in French, excellent). Best of luck Summerfruit, you really need to get that fever checked out. Hoping to read a lovely birth announcement soon!

Good luck, Summerfruit, and please do not apologise. I am glad that there were people around for you when you needed support.

re the lack of support network- Did you go to any antenatal groups during this pregnancy? Those ladies can be a real help later, even if only to have a good moan when things feel too much. Also, the NCT tends to run mother and baby groups that are good for the same reasons. It's imperative for your own sanity that you build up an emotional support group.

Good luck with the birth.

flightattendant · 15/05/2007 10:24

Hey sweetheart, no need to say sorry...we all felt for you, it's the one time in a woman's life when she really needs her OWN mother around and it must be so hard feeling isolated like you do.
Keep us posted if you can, getting excited for you!!

flightattendant · 15/05/2007 10:25

Sorry didn't post yesterday but was watching thread all the same...

daisybump · 15/05/2007 11:20

Hi Summerfruit...glad you're more upbeat today. I was also lurking around yesterday and had read your posts.

I hope that this is it for you, and that you also have the emotional strength to get out and join a mum and baby group. Is there an ex-pat group locally where you can get some "local" support and not feel so isolated. Where are you based...there's bound to be someone on here who is local who'd want to meet up for a coffee!

Keep us updated.xxx

lulumama · 15/05/2007 11:30

really glad you are feeling better....and if you cannot be a drama queen at 40 + weeks pregnant, when can you !! glad you are ok, and it sounds like things are really moving, wishing you a happy homebirth xxx

PS definitely look into NCT bumps & babes coffee mornings, i;ve made some lovely friends through the NCT....worth a go !

Best of luck Summerfruit, and don't worry about the drama queen bit. It sounded like a horrible situation and lord knows it's not like late pregnancy is a barrel of laughs at the best of times! Take care.

I have just posted on my update on my TMI thread, feeling confused and uncomfortable today.

Summerfruit, I'm glad you are feeling a little better today, it's my turn for a wobble, made worse by the fact that my sage femme has decided to take the rest of the week off and the hospital is 45mins away, don't want to go for nothing.
doh, it's just a waiting game I suppose....... taps fingers, we are waiting.........taps fingers some more.........
I hope the MW gives you some reassuring news.

Good luck Summerfruit. Its uncomfortable, but nothing worse. You might get some crampy pains afterwards.

I had a sweep last time and my DD was born 3 days later (but was 10 days late).

Let us know how you get on. We are all waiting you know!

Good luck and lots of love xx

lulumama · 17/05/2007 09:04

the midwife gives you an internal, and inserts a fingertip into the cervix, to stretch it and sweep the membranes..to 'irritate' the cervix and release hormones that can kickstart labour

if it works, it will bring labour on within 24 - 48 hours , but it only works if you would have gone into labour anyway IFYSWIM

take nice deep breaths whilst she is doing it, can be uncomfortable

GOOD LUCK!!! {{{hugs}}}
I like the word 'bassin' ! Excellent, childbirth in French is much more attractive linguistically!

lulumama · 17/05/2007 12:04

you won;t be long now !! 4 cm is almost half way dilated!! keep going..and think those birth thoughts !!
