How long was your hospital stay post-birth if you had mild pre-eclampsia or gestational hypertension?

I am booked in for a c-section next Wednesday at 39 weeks. I was diagnosed with mild pre-eclampsia at 27 weeks .My main sympton is my BP and I've been on medication, monitored weekly and more recently monitored every other day following a 2 day stay last week due to increased BP despite meds. With my first born, I was released from hospital post-section 48 hours later and I'd been assuming this would be the same this time but am I wrong? Will I be kept in for longer because of the pregnancy complications? Just trying to consider how much I'll need for my hospital bag and also making sure childcare is in place for my eldest.

Depends. If nothing else goes wrong, then yes it will be the same. I started with high blood pressure, then the day they were inducing me I developed pre eclampsia, it then turned to eclampsia and wasn't alleviated when I delivered, but they didn't know till two days later when I was put into intensive care and was fitting. I was also haemorrhaging and did so three times, and in addition my kidneys were failing, All in for me I spent a month in hospital post birth and had to have repeated follow ups for a year afterwards.

It was extreme, but It shows there is no point trying to second guess it. What will be will be.

I had preeclampsia.
It wasn’t mild, but i don’t know if it would be classified as severe either, in the sense that they spotted I had it, controlled it with meds in hospital for two weeks and then when it was no longer responsive to any meds I had a c section. My dd was 30 weeks gestation at birth.

I was on postnatal ward for two weeks after until my blood pressure was under control with meds again. Then I was on BP meds discharged under GP care for approximately 6 months then I was weaned off.

Maybe you might extrapolate from this that you will be in postnatal ward for less time than me, but all births and all experiences are different.

I hope it goes well for you and you don’t have to stay in too long, cos postnatal ward is not that great!

I was induced at 5pm on the Tuesday due to pre eclampsia, had EMCS at 4am Wednesday and went home 9am Friday.

3 days with my first, 48 hours with 2nd and 3rd, 24 hrs with the 4th and 4 days with the 5th. All c sections and all with preeclampsia.
I'm very lucky that mine has resolved very quickly after birth with all of them.
With all except the first my babies were delivered within 2 weeks of first symptoms between 36 and 38 weeks.

Thank-you so much for all your responses and I'm so sorry some of you had it so hard. Its so difficult going into the unknown but I guess that's what childbirth is about! Fingers crossed my BP resolves itself quickly after birth!!
