Hi mummies

I had quite a traumatic time with my first childbirth I was induced via a drip. I’ve been advised I’ll most likely have a passary this time and am going in to hospital Monday next week to be induced.

Does anyone have any experience they can share? I’m wondering how long it might take as a worst case scenario to work. I hate the thought of being away from my little boy for longer than a day and night. I’m getting very nervous about the thought of giving birth to twins but cannot wait to meet them.

Anyone have any tips or experience to share about inductions with twins?

Anything I should pack for twins I might have not have thought of?

Thank you x

Hello, I was induced with my first at 39w. I started off with the 24hr pessary (quite gentle) and had some period pains but that was it. The 6hr one went in the after the 24hrs and this ramped things up a bit. I had to have my waters broken and once I was fully dilated my contractions slowed and I had the drip.
I went in Tues morning and had my DD Thurs morning.
Of course, this is just my experience and if your body is more ready for labour things will hopefully move more quickly for you!
Good luck OP, double trouble coming your way!

My twin induction was fine, very fast and not painful. I would be very clear on whether you want the medicalised epidural route or not in advance as you may get drs with set ideas about twin birth on the day.

Do you know why you are being induced if I may ask? Just the way you say you've been advised what is happening......remember it is your decision!

Also do you know twins are more likely to need special care? I was in for 2 weeks with mine.

Hiya thank you for your replies

I’m being induced because it’s an identical twin pregnancy with 1 placenta and it’s deemed higher risk so they usually induce around 36-37 weeks I’ll be 36+3 when I go in.

I do want the epidural as I had it last time
And I really needed it. I think it will also put my mind at rest that if I did need an emergency c section I’m prepped and ready to go. The consultant asked me
If I wanted to have an elected c section and Asked if I wanted an epidural at my last app.

My scan on Friday last week showed babies are about 6.4 and 6.7 pounds and I’ve had steroid injections to aid their lung development. So I’m really hoping it won’t be a long hospital stay

I was induced with my twins at 36+3 :)
Waters broke and starting contracting 20 mins after pessary went in.. took 20 hours until first baby but think for me the epidural slowed things down as I couldn't move around. Only 20 mins for next baby hehe. Enjoy meeting your twins xxx

I was induced with my DTwins at 38.5 weeks. IIRC it was over 30+ hours from pessary going in to the birth of DD1, DD2 half an hour later. I had an epidural, recommended in case they had to do an emergency C-section; in the end they didn't but I needed ventouse assistance for both.

TBH the really awful and slow part was the week we were kept on the maternity ward.

Good luck x
