Any advice please! Her baby is lying transverse and they couldn't turn it so she's having a section on Monday. She hasn't had one before, I've had two so I've told her everything I can remember but I'm sure there's lots more pearls of wisdom out there! Thanks

Have sent my CS birth plan to a couple of people - if anyone wants it, CAT me.

eidsvold · 11/05/2007 07:26

i had the pain relief button for first 24 hours post c-section with my last two that I had here in Aus BUT in the UK - just oral pain relief.

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 11/05/2007 08:18

LilRed - can't CAT but could you email it to me at [email protected]

Thanks!

Tell her to smuggle in her own snack food. She will be starving and they might cut her off of food until she goes for a poo. They did this tome and I was STARVING. I kept asking for food, and they'sd go away and never come back. They finally explained I wasn't to eat because on rare occassions the effects of the anaesthesia stops everything up so they don't let you eat until you go for a poo. But, they didn't tell me this for ages. Just bever came back with any food... by which time I had scarf an entire package of biscuits, and when I told her this she wrote i on my notes as if I'd been naughty and she was writing me up.

Anyway, hospital food is crap. She should line up someone to bring her real food for a few days.

LilRedWg's birth plan is fab by the way - she sent it to me yesterday and there are loads of things in it I would not have thought of to make it seem more like a birth than an operation. Not that I felt my emergency section wasn't a birth but it would be nice to be able to make it more personal next time if I choose this option....

Diclofenac! Yep!!

"Natural" C Section Should be standard practice!

Eat well before op but not after deadline. Anaesthetic caused me to vomit during both emergency and planned c-sections so don't muck about with this.

sauce · 11/05/2007 21:37

(vomiting meant that surgeon had trouble sewing me up & I lost a lot of blood as a result.)

elasticbandstand · 11/05/2007 22:16

walk tall was the advise i was given, good advice, otherwise she will be walking doubled up in fear, it honestly is ok, to walk tall

maisym · 11/05/2007 22:20

didn't have morphine but some tablet pain relief.

Have everything to hand for the first days - set out the bed side table before the op if you can.

I would agree with most of this. I had a CS for DD (now 8) and it was so fab, I chickened out of even considering a VBAC for DS (now 5) and his CS was even better! Def have a voltorol suppository - I had 2 both times - they are magic bullets. Work by decreasing inflammation. Also, get up and about, just gentle pottering, asap. Agree with staying in hospital as long as needed. I cam out after 3 days with both of mine but that was out of choice. Doctor will sign off on driving as soon as you feel as though you can do an emergency stop - check with your insurance. With DS, it was 4 weeks. And I also agree witht he birth plan stuff - I was desperate to BF and that mattered more to me than the birth so DD was put to breast within 10 mins fo being born. Even sooner for DS and BF both forever. We had music playing, too. My BP dropped with the spinal which made me feel very sick but drugs soon sorted that. All in all, quite extraordinary experiences and totally fab! I am so proud never to have had a labour pain. Friends say i didn't miss much1 All the best!
