I had my son 11 1/2 months ago today ! And needed a emergency c section :( I'm now 16weeks and due sept 10th but already panicking about how I'm getting this baby out ! Do I risk a emergency and possibly ripping open my scar in labour ...or just have a c section planned ??? I just don't want to be so limited when I will have a 17month old running around :( ???

I understand that anxious and I agree there are risks (I also totally get your experience) but upon doing my research I’ve had mumsnetters tell me I’m going to die or kill my child, putting them at risk with a vbac and in all honesty I consider it scaremongering. I think as long as you do your research and you’re smart about the risks eg you were in hospital when you had rupture and everything was manageable then I think if a consultant backs it it’s ok to go for vbac and all options have risks. The stats include ppl with different bmis, maternal age, induction, number of c sections etc, other factors also affect it. There are many many risks for all options. I highly recommend the AIMS book on vbac to weigh up all options. And yes, I’ve had people recommend I go for second c section as if it’s a trip to the spa, nothing is without risk or is an “easy option”. I don’t mean to offend but I had my confidence on vbac knocked severely on these threads and with not a lot of substance behind what was said. As another poster said, speak to your consultant op and find out the situation with your personal circumstances. Be aware of the risks (all of them, not just the rupture/dehisence risks but the other risks) and then decide from there. And don’t be scared - the risk factors are very low for all options, think how many ppl have babies every day. So yes, be aware of the risks but be realistic about them. Good luck with your decision!
