Pulling my hair out over whether to have elective csection or try vbac.....
Basically im 35 weeks with baby#2 still dont know what to do...
I have a just turned 2 year old and will probably have to do 1 flight (about10 steps) every time i wana go outside.
Whats other peoples experience? What would you say is easier if there is such a thing lol...
P.S. my 2 year old was emergency csection 2016 and is my only child.

It is hard because it is so unpredictable, I remember say to the Consultant that if I knew it would end up as an EMCS then I would definitely got for a planned CS. He said he wished he could predict as it would make his job alot easier. As it happened I didn't have the CS, had a short labour. I was nearly 40 and as my wound had opened and needed restitching after the birth I was worried about the scar rupturing, particularly as it was another 10lb baby but it was no problem.

I think the thing with a 2 year old is you can sit down and let them climb onto your lap so that isn't a deal breaker.

You'll be able to do stairs almost normally after a week. Definitely by two. When I say almost normally, I just took it steady and didn't go up and down more than I needed to.

Your other half will have to step up to help, perhaps have a conversation with him first so he understands that you will have undergone major abdominal surgery and that he'll have to do xyz for at least 4 weeks.

The two tasks I struggled with most were loading the washing machine and unloading the dishwasher - awkward angle and too much stretching. Was definitely 4 weeks till I was doing those solo.

Just wanted to add as well about your fear of forceps, My DS had to be pulled out with forceps as he was stuck and although nothing broke he had some nasty marks - this was during my ELCS so you can never really predict. In the end my decision was made based on the fact of how I would feel if the situation turned into an EMCS again and I almost cried at the thought so opted for an ELCS. Good luck with whatever you chose Smile

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take everyone to stop bleeding post cs/vbac? I was 8 weeks then straight onto my first period lol.

Section! Stay in the house for a week to recover and then stairs should be manageable. Loved my sections.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 24/03/2018 21:45

It took me about 5 weeks to stop post emcs but I definitely over did things. I'm a dreadful patient and hate being looked after plus to keep me in bed, they would have needed restraints.

Sleeplikeasloth · 25/03/2018 15:39

Bleeding post elcs - I stopped using a pad after about 5 days, and used a pantyliner for week after that, but tbh it was like the last day of a period after the first 3 days, and only heavy for one day.

Stairs were slow but not painful after 3 days. Pretty much back to normal by a week.

NotTakenUsername · 25/03/2018 15:42

Sorry to hijack the thread thread but when people say they could not manage the stairs for a few days does that mean at all? We have no bedrooms on the bottom floor of our house.

Floralnomad · 25/03/2018 16:42

nottaken I was home within 48 hrs and could do stairs just fine .

WanderlustHenpeck · 25/03/2018 22:19

I was fine too. Wasn't running up and down them as usual but could walk up.and down them fine. I just limited it for the first few days so as not to over do it - made sure I had all I needed before going downstairs in the morning.

Just a lil update... Baby girl born on 29th successful VBAC... She came a few weeks early and went from 0-9cm in 1hour so i knew they were making me go natural despite my best pleas for a csection during the contractions (wow i forgot how much they hurt lol) have to say so far so good though and the recovery so far has been alot easier to deal with even though i havent even slept since 4am on 29th and have been pretty much on my feet ever since 🙈
Genuinely think the midwife made the difference x
