Arnica tablets, do they work?

Been told to take arnica tablets heading into labour and for recovery afterwards. Can anybody say they actually worked and had a quick recovery?

I didn't think arnica was homeopathic. It's a herbal remedy - most of what we take is, isn't it? Aspirin is salicylic acid and derived from willow bark, isn't it?

I took arnica from very late pregnancy and had a very quick recovery

Herbal arnica is highly poisonous and can’t be ingested. So whatever you took had to be homeopathic - ie sugar - not herbal.

Not a placebo, homeopathic remedies work on babies and animals

So does sugar water.

Homeopathic =sugar tablet
Herbal= Made from a plant, and contains active ingredients. Technically would include aspirin, digoxin etc. So will have an affect.

Titty I bought herbal arnica in tablet form. It was low dose, but it was still herbal arnica.

Yes! I was very bruised and swollen after DS2, even with the arnica tablets it took about 3 days to go down.

Where’s your control? You can’t know that arnica sped up the healing, as you don’t know how long it would have taken without. How do you know it didn’t slow down your healing?

Where from? I can’t find anyone selling herbal arnica. It’s all homeopathic shite.

And I didn't and also had a very quick recovery.

Confused

reallyanotherone no control, just common sense. DS2 got stuck twice, my vag looked like a boxer's face and was extremely tender. I'd have expected it to take a few weeks, not a few days.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 19/03/2018 11:54

So would my GP, she said as much.

littlepill · 19/03/2018 14:16

Sophie Obviously, I can't compare my own case with yours or with anyone else's! No need for Confused I didn't claim to have the scientific background. Even comparing across my own pregnancies won't be accurate.

I got my tablets in the US. I think the regulations for medicine/foods might be different because I can buy melatonin there, which I can't get in the UK.

My GP also recommended it to me. This was one of the websites I used for research:

If it doesn't work but hasn't done you any harm then why not give it a go???

TittyGolightly · 19/03/2018 20:10

Because it lines the pockets of fraudsters!

TootsieWantsToRelocate · 19/03/2018 21:08

Because it might delay you finding appropriate treatment (this is probably more important if you’re trying to treat something more serious than bruising).
