Syntometrine - anyone react badly?

I am trying to figure out why I was so sick after giving birth last time. One of my midwives thinks it could have been the synto injection (just the routine third stage management thing) but the other says it would have happened right away if so, while in fact I wasn't sick until about 5+ hours after DS was born - dry heaving, for over an hour, I couldn't stop till I was given IV maxolon.

It was horrible and left me unable to pick up DS or change his nappy while it was going on. I had had an epidural, entonox, nothing else really except the Synto.

I also had high blood pressure the next day, which I've read can be a side effect of synto too - but if it was all down to the synto, it was a bit delayed I guess.
Anyone got any ideas or had a similar experience?

I hate to think it was purely the shock of giving birth!

I had a reaction to syntometrine after the birth of dd1 and dd2. I had high blood pressue and flashing lights in my eyes. I was concerned when pregnant with ds about it happening again.
Syntometrine is a mixture of 2 drugs
Syntocin (helps contract the uterus)
Ergometrine(consticts the blood vessels to slow bleeding)It is common that the ergometrine can cause side effects.
As a result when ds was born I just had an injection of syntocin. I was fine afterwards.
Also, sometimes after having an epidural it can do funny things to you.

Thanks - I'll ask if they do syntocinon instead, in case they need to give it. I know there's a risk of PPH if you don't have it, but don't want to lose a day with the baby 'just in case'...

Hoping to avoid the epi as well...like, I'm so able to cope with pain this time!
But they can't give you one at home anyway, thankfully...

I requested syntocinon for both my deliveries as syntometrine has a reputation for making people puke! I put it on my birth plan and had no problems getting it.
