VBAC

Hey everyone!

I had to have a emergency csection with my first baby back in 2014.
I saw the birth choice midwife today who had been through all my previous notes & they had stated in my notes in 2014 that I would be good for a VBAC.

This is also what the midwife advised today although the desicion is still mine, we went through all the pros & cons for both ect I do feel a vaginal birth will be better recovery to another section ...

Has anyone had a vbac? Was it a better experience than the csection?

Also... I had the hormone drip with my first after two pessarys.. if it got to induction I would not want the hormone drip again... can I request this?

As always I've left and now thought of things I want to ask Hmm

I will ask at my next appt but wanted to see if anyone has been through a vbac successfully and could advise me ..

Thanks

The drip hurts like hell but is needed to help keeping contractions going.
I need the drip on after birth too as my womb doesnt contract and I bleed a lot.

The choice is yours. Ive never had a section but imagine recovery from vbac is a little easier.

If you go with vbac listen to the midwife esp during the pushing stage to prevent tears etc

Good luck x

My hospital will not allow induction after c-section, higher risk of rupture I was told. My choices were VBAC only if body went into labour and progressed itself, they would let me go to 40 + 0 but no further.

I ended up with section again at 37 weeks but more like an elective and my recovery was miles better. Due 3rd section in a couple of weeks and they wouldn't even entertain VBA2C.

I do not think anyone can unequivocally say a VBAC recovery will be better or worse than a section recovery as there are problems possible in either scenario. What you should discuss with your medical team is the plan if VBAC doesn't work as EMCS will most likely have very different recovery to ELCS. I was sad a VBAC didn't work out but glad it didn't get to another EMCS stage as that recovery and experience was tough.

Good luck whatever you decide

Im 30 weeks and have been offered vbac. They will let me go overdue but not induce as it increases risk of uterine rupture. I also would have to be on continuous monitoring so no midwife led unit or water birth. I'm massively torn between the two options (not helped by useless VBAC midwife....) so glad I have a few more weeks before I have to choose!

Ohhgreat I have to be monitored too and I assumed that would mean no water birth but the midwife I saw said I can request a wireless version of the equipment (can't remember the exact name, trans something) which means I should be able to use the pool this time around (hoping for vbac too op).

An elective section can often be an easier recovery than an emergency section. A good vbac will be an easier recovery. However a bad vaginal birth could be a terrible recovery! I'm still not fully recovered 2 years on!

I've had 2 completely vanilla, straightforward home VBACs after having an EMCS with DD1. I think the chances of a successful VBAC depend on the reasons for your section - some issues are more likely to recur than others. My section was for foetal distress, so I was advised that this was not likely to happen again. I think there is info about this if you Google- there's a website with lots of info about VBACs if only I could remember the name of it!

I had an induction ending in EMCS with DC1.

Pregnancy number 2 I was very keen to experience natural labour and birth. DC2 was a VBAC, and I was much happier. He did get stuck at the end, so I had an episiotomy and forceps, but despite this I still feel positive about my experience, and recovery seemed much quicker (within a week my pain was gone and I wasn't aware of my wound anymore).
